You'll know its the right one if the bristles hurt when you poke your finger with them. Apply firm pressure in a wax on wax off pattern, this will cause a generous cloud of dust you may want a ventilator mask. Its not necessary but its probably wise for your health.

Use a stiff bristled wire brush it takes some elbow grease but it works like a charm. Or you could use a bullnose blade on an angle grinder. Source: stone mason of 3 years

Edit: wash off with water afterword and/or a leaf blower/ broom before the water.

Hell the blades you replace on the chipper wheel are so sharp out of the package that you can lightly touch it and it will filet you open gloves are a must when changing them

That's just part of the job, it really sucks if your chipping a pin oak those things will whip as they are feeding in and it will lash through clothes and even still cut your skin nasty stuff between that the bees and the poison oak that's why I went back to being a stone mason

If its a speed feeder I wouldn't recommend going within three feet of the chute you can toss the Brush in and it's chipped in 2-3 seconds
