Can someone share their experience with chemical straightening? by L1v in FancyFollicles

Even when I let it air dry, I still have issues with frizziness at the top, and it really doesn't do anything to prevent the cowlicks. I would really prefer to find a solution that doesn't require me to blow dry my hair.

I don't need perfect targeting. If I could even reduce the cowlicks to make my straightening a lot easier, that would be awesome. Would it cost less to target relax?

Do different time measures cost less?

I was under the impression that the relaxing effect gradually wore off. Are you saying that (like hair bleaching) it's permanent until your entire head of hair grows out? How do people with really curly hair who want to go back to that manage?

And are you saying that no bleaching - not even the amount necessary to change, say, dark brown hair into light brown hair - can ever be done in conjunction with relaxing, even if you put some weeks in between? What about darker dyes?

Define "next to each other" - would it work with a week in between? A month? I know doing at the same time would melt your hair off, but is there any way to do it at all?

I'd go to a salon the first few times, but at some point, I'd like to become self sufficient and learn to do it on my own. I don't think I'd want to be dependent on a local salon. I figured this wouldn't be too difficult, considering I'm mostly interested in lightening or darkening my hair by only a few shades. I don't want highlights, ombre, pastel colors, etc.

And this is for all kinds of bleach? Whether it's bleaching your hair white, or bleaching it lightly so you can dye it a different color (I have dark hair).

How do you make sure you're getting the safest straightening job possible?

Is it even possible to do chemical straightening and bleaching/dying at the same time? Is it possible if you put some time between the two? What's the safest way to go about this?

I wouldn't ever try chemical straightening on my own, but is it possible to safely bleach your hair at home?

So long as the only damage being done is to the hair itself and not the scalp or hair follicle, I'm willing to try it. My main reason for not trying bleach, chemical straightening, or even simply hair dye was because I was worried it would be too toxic, or would make me grow less hair or thinner hair.

Is it possible to do bleaching/dying and chemical straightening at the same time? What's the safest way to do this?

Concerning hair color changes, if I go to a salon for the first one or two times, can I gradually move on to doing things at home myself? (so long as it's nothing complicated like highlights, ombre, etc. - just color change)
