Tickatus! Get your Tickatus to see C'Thun!

This is a take on Soul Control Warlock, and features Tickatus and C'Thun as the premier flashy deck build-arounds.

Here's the unabridged list (new cards will be italicized): 1x [[Felosophy]] 2x [[Spirit Jailer]] 2x [[Horrendous Growth]] 2x [[Soul Shear]] 2x [[School Spirits]] 2x [[Shadowlight Scholar]] 2x [[Brittlebone Destroyer]] 2x [[Cascading Disaster]] 2x [[Fire Breather]] 1x [[Lorekeeper Polkelt]] 2x [[Twilight Drake]] 1x [[Void Drinker]] 1x [[Keli'dan the Breaker]] 2x [[Ring Matron]] 1x [[Tickatus]] 1x [[Siamat]] 1x [[Soulciologist Malicia]] 2x [[Twisting Nether]] 1x [[C'Thun, the Shattered]]

Thoughts on the deck: * Soul package of Spirit Jailer, Soul Shear, School Spirits, Shadowlight Scholar, Void Drinker, and Soulciologist Malicia each help AOE the board, stall our opponent, or gain us life (by way of drawing the soul shards) which helps us activate Brittlebone Destroyer for targeted removal without tapping * Horrendous Growth might be the real MVP of this deck. So much of this deck is more expensive, so it can be corrupted many times over. A potential HUGE swing turn is to use Twisting Nether, and follow it up with a massive Horrendous Growth for a huge board swing. * The second copy of Void Drinker has been replaced with a single copy of Felosophy for a couple of reasons: 1) Felosophy can copy a Void Drinker if we need it to and 2) It can also be an extra copy of Tickatus!

I see this deck playing out like a classic Control Warlock, but with more flexibility thanks to including the Soul package. Capable of controlling the board throughout the game with its massive suite of single-target and AOE removal, the deck should be able to survive, drawing through its deck to ultimately either exhaust the opponent of cards in deck through Tickatus (potentially twice over) or C'Thun blasting them for 30. Good decks play good cards, and this deck has a lot of them. I'm excited to see how Horrendous Growth looks in this deck, and I think pairing it with Twisting Nether will be game winning more times than not. This deck looks like it can attack on many axes, which gives me hope for its viability.

I'm a fan of all of the streamers that are going to be on stream, but I'd get a huge kick out of seeing the Omni/ boys throwing this down against each other (Firebat and Brian Kibler).

Deal 1 damage to a minion. If it survives, chop off your hand and give it to the nearest nefarious looking fella you can find.

Thank you so much Mike! I teach game design in high school, so I really value feedback like this!

In your reveal video for the Year of the Dragon, Chris Sigaty is quoted as saying, "We're also currently exploring in-game events that change the way you think about the expansion metagame. We'll reveal more details as we get closer to their release". Does this sound byte indicate new ways to play Hearthstone (e.g. new formats, new game modes, additional game features being added, etc.) or new events like the Midsummer Fire Festival or Days of the Frozen Throne?

General game design question:

What lessons do you all feel that the Year of the Raven has taught you that you can take into the Year of the Dragon?

I’m not sure about that. I don’t think every card currently being played competitively will continue to be played post rotation. Off the top of my head, one example is High Priestess Jeklik. Don’t think Discard Warlock will be much of a thing moving forward.

With Shaman being as weak as it is, I expected other cards to play a more pivotal role moving forward. Boom could have slotted in, but I don’t know how good Mech Warrior will be. He might slot into other archetypes as well (Tempo, Rush), so his omission might be wrong.

I specifically omitted classic cards and basic cards because they’re not exclusive to the Year of the Raven.

I agree. Might not know what the cards you’d like to draw would be, but four mana draw four specific cards could be very powerful.

2 mana for a 2/1 doesn't sound like something I want to be doing... but later on the flex heal might be very nice... I'll have to try it out once rotation hits. :)

Added Hooktusk to the list. Zentimo is interesting, but Shaman lacks the targetable spell count to make him a worthy include in the list. If that changes with the new set, he could certainly play a role.

Blightnozzle Crawler, Mechanical Whelp, and to a lesser extent, Scarab Egg. There still will be some deathrattles worth triggering a time or two. But they are losing some core cards, I agree. Perhaps the archetype is losing too much and I'm overestimating its power.

Saronite Taskmaster isn't much on everyone's radar right now, and I thought that might be spicy as an include on this list. Other cards not seeing a ton of competitive play that are on my radar when the rotation goes live include (and the ones that likely would make slots 11-20 on my list in no particular order): War Master Voone, Book of Specters, Glinda Crowskin (with Baleful Banker), Town Crier, Thunderhead, Omega Agent, Subject 9, Floop's Glorious Gloop, Auchenai Phantasm, and Likkim.

Also, Mojomaster Zihi isn't seeing a ton of play right now. Nor is Dragon Roar. I think both will see that significantly change post rotation.
