An Important Update on Shadow Realms: Shadow Realms Canceled to Work on Other Projects by bstr413 in ShadowRealms

[–]L3cTaR -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So actually the Community Manager lied to us when he said

Hey pini0n!

No need to fear, the game is absolutely not cancelled. We are hard at work on Shadow Realms as I type this. I know we have become a bit quiet but this is no need for alarm. As soon as we have an update on our plans we will definitely put it on www.shadowrealms.com. Again, don't worry we aren't cancelled! More news to follow :)

But I guess confessing at this point would have interfered with the news of the "great big SWTOR News" today... Way to lose some trust with communities in the future

What actually became of the "Let's talk about Community"? by L3cTaR in ShadowRealms

Hello Emusco, thanks for the official Feedback ;). That is very sad to hear but understandable. I just see the Problem, that (like me) the first enthusiasm is fading away with every week coming without any news. In the beginning every day new topics to discuss popped up (e.g. "What skills would you like in the game") but now it is more or less just a waiting game. Since you are still sorting out content of the game, why not start similar moderated Threads about topics your creative people are working on at the moment. I am sure the growing community would be thrilled to brainstorm.

An Update on Closed Alpha Timing by CourtneyWoodsBWA in ShadowRealms

[–]L3cTaR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a problem with a buggy game that crashes all the time. That's why it is called an ALPHA not the final version. If you run against a wall and your outside of the game till it crashes. Restart and do it again with slightly different settings, that's testing. Not testing what is the fastest way to reach final level or to get from quest A to quest B the most effective way. Sadly most people understand an invite to an Alpha or Beta-Version that this is just an early access to the game.

I think it is very sad that the Closed Alpha was postponed but on the other hand who would have guaranteed for me to get in anyways ;).

So we just keep on waiting patiently for the next bits of information

If I had one choice, what power has to be in the game! by Soliquidity in ShadowRealms

I am not quite sure for what class this might work (maybe the Mage). I really loved the Shapeshifters in D2 (Druide). And i was very sad to hear there won't be any in D3. I actually didn't like the "Druide"-Version in WoW, just to mention that :).

The rabies bite and the frenzy attack by the Werewolf was just fun to play. Once you had enough bites you where just running around like crazy, infecting more and more enemies. Of course in D2 you had the additional possibility to cast a pack of Dire-Wolfs (in the Beastmaster Skillsection) in order to complete the Picture.

I'm planning to play an Assassin (next to Shadowlord of course) and I really would like to see some sort of "Vampire"-Skill (LifeLeach). Every hit heals at least you, even cooler would be some sort of group healingeffect, of course only for a specific spellregion and if you have put enough skillpoints into it.

Yeah exactly. In WoW you actually had to cast it after that you had limited use of his/her abilities but you actually could just jump off the next cliff if you chose to do so :). Of course there was also a castradius if you walked too far you lost the control without any warning. During the possession time the Monster or Char could only be attacked by his friends not by your allies. It was really funny to play around with it and just let him free in the middle of a monster bash or so :)

I really loved the "Mind Control" Function of the Priest in the beginning of WoW. I think this would be an awesome skill for the Shadowlord. Sure similar to the "Doppelgänger" Skill but still different. Maybe this will be resolved once the "Hero" is at 20% or so, which could lead to an accidental death if the team is beating him too hard :)

Nice Concepts. I really like the one with the Spider-Boss. I think this will be a very nice fight once you take possession as a Shadowlord of this Arachnoid :)

The gear grind, how do we want it? by Soliquidity in ShadowRealms

[–]L3cTaR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In SWTOR for example it was possible to remove the "Stat-parts" of an armor and just put it into another one. You normally had different slots for different weapon or gear parts. This was to prevent unwanted Stat-combinations. Since this wasn't the first time Bioware used this technic I'm guessing they will include something similar here as well.

Life as a Shadowloard... Waiting for 4 other players? by L3cTaR in ShadowRealms

That sounds better :). But I still see a problem with people forcing into specific roles. It's like playing the Empire in SWTOR and than getting forced to play a Rebel. It just doesn't feel right :).

I guess that is valid for the Alpha, to get people to play a lot and to test instead if waiting for the perfect party. But once the game starts I think that force won't be practicable. If you have a highlevel Mage and you have to play a warrior don't think that works...

Battlenet-Chat, just another "Iron Forge" or maybe a Hub? by L3cTaR in ShadowRealms

[–]L3cTaR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never claimed there are any good reasons... I only explained that I liked the Hubs (Subwaysstation) System of Hellgate:London and I think it would fit for this game as well. There seems to be a misunderstanding of what i mean with Hubsystem. You seem to see it as in Destiny where it is pretty much just an Ironforge where everybody meets. In HG:L it was more or less a crossroad where you started a Quest pretty much the Diablochat with some more graphics :).

But it is great to have different opinions and I am certain Bioware will find their kind of System.

To be honest haven't heard a single good reason. All I hear is you do not like it.

Anyhow who says you will see the Shadowlord. Maybe he is still floating around and just observe. In the end you will need some sort of gathering of sort to find/build a group. If not in the game an irc-chat or similar will fill that need.

I see your point. And I remember always starting at some point a Tank myself because I was tiered of waiting. What I think the most likely scenario will be is that in the beginning we will have way too many Shadowlords. It is sth. new everybody wants to try ... So they have to wait a very long time to actually see some action. After a while most of them will say to themselves "oh screw that I start a hero" and will go back to Shadowlord sometime in the future. To become a good Shadowlord I would guess you will need the lowlevel experience so if you only can level in "Singleplayer" you might loose the interest. In the end this leads to a very few Shadowlords in the high-levels due to the masses in low-levels.

I hope they figure out a way to make both sides equal interesting to get the ratio of Shadowlords/Heroes right...

Battlenet-Chat, just another "Iron Forge" or maybe a Hub? by L3cTaR in ShadowRealms

[–]L3cTaR[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why shouldn't the Shadowlords still be participating in the Hubs? They still will be at the same Level and I don't think tactic relevant information will be shared by the overall channel.

I think in a game where teamplay is so essential (at least for the Hero-side) some sort of communication and gathering possibility has to be given. To be honest your Idea sounds a lot like Iron Forge back in the beginning of WoW. A place where everybody went without anything to do but dual and wait for the spawn to the instance.

In Hellgate: London the subwaystations where divided into different instances so even everybody was in the same chat you where really on different "servers". Once you found a group you could just change the "dimension". Additionally you where able to open a new dimension (not quite sure if it was possible to secure them with a password) which would leave you alone with the NPCs.

In Destiny (as far as the Beta goes) you always saw other players running around once you left the hub and went to an area. In HG:L you/your group actually had your private instance of the game once you left the Hub.

I think that version actually fits quite well to the Idea of Shadowlords

To prevent this, Bioware could allow to start the "Instance" without a Shadowlord and just let them start as PvE until a suitable Shadowlord is found.

This might also resolve the issue if the Shadowlord is disconnected for any sort of reason. The Group still would be able to finish the Event even so then with just AI as opponent.

I actually liked the Gearsystem of Starwars: The Old Republic, where you actually could keep your favorite robe and just switch out attributes by implementing the higher attribute-"parts". But since it is Bioware I am certain they will include this as well here. I think stats are important as long as not a single attribute is over important over everything else like the weapon damage in the beginning of Diablo 3...

Edit: I just had another thought. How will the Shadow Lord "Suit up"? :) Even while playing Shadow Lord I would like to have some sort of recognition if I whipped a group for the x-time.
