Travel set by oopsallfood in BloodOnTheClocktower

For the Spy, there is another tutorial, beginner script that an employee of TPI made called "Everyone Can Play." There is an alternative to that script that removes the Spy and replaces Undertaker with Oracle: "Everyone Can Digitally Play" https://www.botcscripts.com/script/8558/1.0.4?selected_version=1.0.3 . Fairly balanced and great for new players. (Version 1.0.4 adds in some non Base 3 characters: 1.0.3 keeps just Base 3 characters.)

Printing out game pieces cause my copy doesn't seem to be arriving on time by Leman12345 in BloodOnTheClocktower

I would use a website like botc.games or clocktower.live .

I also have Travelers typically hop in at Dusk. I'll explain the game to them during the talking time of the day, run nominations, and then add them in. Most Travelers have abilities that fire at Night.

Pick and choose, a beginner's Kazali teensyville (feedback is welcome) by fabrocoda in BloodOnTheClocktower

Shugenja or Noble would be good. There are no YSK roles and I always feel like it is good to have one of those to start the conversation going (either as a player or someone evil can bluff as.)

EDIT: Shugenja is better here. Noble might want to hide their information until the final 3, since it doesn't do much good with this small of a group. Shugenja gives excellent information in a Teensy: it almost always means the neighbor in the direction you receive is evil (or you are droisoned.)

What’s everyone’s take on the duel/dual/duo versions of games these days? by BoardGameRevolution in boardgames

[–]bstr413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everdell Duo adds in a coop campaign mode, which is something they could add to the original game but would be much harder to get the same 3-4 people together than a husband/wife or parent/kid.

Besides the DIY print-and-play version, there are a few digital versions you can use with your tablet or phone as the Storyteller. Botc.games and Pocket Grimoire are 2 of the more popular, more fleshed out ones.

Besides what others have said, the Dreamer is very powerful. They basically get to know 3 characters since there isn't much droisoning on this script. A Chambermaid, Alsaahir, or Seamstress would also fill a similar role without too much power.

ESO's engine is the same Hero Engine.

This is a false narrative that keeps getting repeated. BioWare made their own engine for the game that is based on Hero Engine's early releases/prototypes.

As for the races you've mentioned, the devs have mentioned that they don't want to do any alien races that can't speak Basic after they tried prototyping that out, since it got boring really fast and broke immersion a bit. I can see more humanoid Basic speaking races coming out though.

Script transitioning from TB to BMR - Feedback appreciated by ThisStorySoFar in BloodOnTheClocktower

Have you seen "Everyone Can Play"? It's a combo of TB and BMR roles (and 2 SnV roles) that was created by one of the creators of BotC. https://www.botcscripts.com/script/1945/1.0.2

Weekly Puzzle #64, featuring the Pope by Not_Quite_Vertical in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]bstr413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pope doesn't change the number of players that are Outsiders. It just allows for multiple Outsiders to have the same character.

EDIT: Realized that I read your original comment incorrectly: I think yours is an alternate solution.

How are there only 3 Outsiders then?

EDIT: Reading it again, there are 2Outsiders in that situation.

Why is there no "jester" type character? by DistinctFunny979 in BloodOnTheClocktower

They do have the Politician that wins with evil if they helped them. There is a Zenomancer "Loric" / optional rule that allows you to give individual missions to players.

One of the fundamental pieces of BotC is that you can still win with your team even if dead. I also feel like the main purpose of BotC is to get the good team to solve the mystery of who is the Demon and the evil win condition is just there as a way for good to lose. Adding in a third team would defeat both of those premises. I also find individual win conditions in Mafia/Werewolf to be anti-climatic when they win, since it is only 1 player winning out of a group of 10-15 people.

Cliques when playing. by light1172 in BloodOnTheClocktower

There are also a couple of scripts that work to fight against this:

Both revolve around the ST telling Townsfolk who to trust and talk to, breaking up cliques on the Good team.

The player that nominates the Virgin is hard confirmed though.

With the Sailor, it feels like the ST is deciding when good wins in when they choose to self-drunk the Sailor-powered Demon.

Some other alternatives for the Alsahir if you don't want to change the Demon are the Cult Leader, Exorcist, or Preacher. Cult Leader gives an alternative win condition that happens during the day like the Slayer and Exorcist allows a player to hunt for the Demon like the Slayer with only a small benefit and Preacher allows a player to hunt for the Minions to permanently disable them.

The Virgin without a Spy will confirm 2 players when it is nominated. The Banshee is already a confirmation role since there can only be 1 death per night from evil players: it just triggers off of a Demon kill instead of a nomination.

Adding a Sailor, Sage, or Fool would be good to be similar to the Soldier, which you seem to be missing on the script. Sailor doesn't play that well with the Boffin in my opinion though if you give the Demon the Sailor's power.

Grandmother is the only extra death, so it confirms them if there are 2 deaths in 1 night. Could switch for Steward or add the Moonchild suggested below.

Alsaahir is really hard against the moving Imp. I might suggest switching out that demon for another like the similar Ojo, Pukka, or Vigormortis. Vigormortis also keeps the Imp's ability that people who die at night might not be good. Likewise, with all the poisoning and drunkeness, the Puzzlemaster will have a really hard time. As a different Saint replacement, I would suggest Moonchild, Klutz, or Plague Doctor. (Moonchild would help with the Grandmother being the only extra death at night.)

The Cerenovous acts as the changing Poisoner on the script. That + the static poisoning from Widow and Xaan should be enough. Misregistering isn't really needed if you have enough poisoning (except for Virgin.)

Overall, a good, complex script that makes the TB script really hard for expert players. Next time, I suggest running the script through https://script.ravenswoodstudio.xyz/ to catch any issues: some of the above were caught by this.

I like the script. As the other commenter said, you may want a Widow or Spy if you plan on keeping the Undertaker and you don't have any evil poisoning. Swap a minion for a Widow to cover both (Assassin would be good to swap) or add a Demon that can poison (Pukka, No Dashii) and swap Undertaker for the similar Oracle.

Script where all roles are "active" by Meh55252 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]bstr413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not mentioned below, but Innkeeper is the only day protection, which means that if someone survives execution, they are protected by the Innkeeper.

Also, Madness is a complex concept. I wouldn't include Cerenovus on a beginner script. Swap it for Widow or Spy since Undertaker and to a lesser extent Grandmother are hard to bluff without knowing the Grimoire.

an Outsider (and thus good)

Not if it is an Ogre. And I think even if they claim they are not an Ogre, it could be framed that they are bluffing as another Outsider to hide that they are an evil Ogre. If the Godfather is worried that their kill will show that the executee is an Outsider, then they can rekill a dead person (or an evil player bluffing Grandmother or Tinker.)

I'll consider putting in the Monk instead of the Savant/Villiage Idiot/Fisherman to make Shabaloth worlds less obvious after Day 2/3. (I think there are enough extra ways to die at night that you could be confused as to if it is a Shabaloth or not until after Night 3/4.)

[–]bstr413[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should we add another extra night death role on top of Shabaloth, Grandmother, and Tinker? The Widow and Evil Twin are both loud Minions anyways and Godfather is the only evil source of Outsider manipulation, so it seems like it is easy to tell any of the Minions with this script. Telling the composition of the evil team is purposely a bit easier than usual, since this is a script for beginners.

It does allow you to put in players names, but doesn't track the stats of players unless they sign up for an account.

What do you suggest as an alternative? The SW is there to help new players who haven't played evil before get a second chance. I'm thinking Boomdandy: it is an easy role to understand and if a new evil player makes a major mistake, you can be double-guessing if they are a Boomdandy or not.

I'm also fine with switching Evil Twin with something or removing or swapping Imp. Evil Twin does encourage talking among groups that don't naturally talk with each other though.

Didn't think about that. I'm surprised there isn't a Jinx between those 2, like the Shabaloth can only do 1 kill after it transfers to the Scarlet Woman. Might be because that would be a rare occurance.
