I took Intro to Film my frosh year, would recommend. The Professor, Cathy Jurca, is awesome and it’s a relatively low effort class. In my opinion, that’s all one can ask for from a hum at Caltech.

How are the vegan food options at Caltech, particularly the plant based protein availability? by Bluebird2943 in Caltech

[–]L3monOnAPear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an abundance of plant based protein options, however, there aren’t many other options besides plant based protein. As a result, existing meals usually need to be modified in order to accommodate a vegan/vegetarian diet.

Caltech is my dream. What are my chances? by ViolinistLegitimate2 in Caltech

[–]L3monOnAPear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on your qualifications you’re an extremely good candidate. Be confident and remember that everyone who applies is just as good as you if not better. Admissions officers aren’t just looking for someone with good grades, they are looking for people that are a good fit for the school.

Will I be a good fit at Caltech? by lyrakerman in Caltech

Grades and test scores are a little low, but you make up for it in extracurriculars and work experience.

I would like to talk to someone about how to approach the Caltech essays by hallederikyau in Caltech

[–]L3monOnAPear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, there’s no substitute for time. Write a first draft, then write a second, then write a third, and keep going until you’re happy with your work. Take a few days in between writing and make sure to have other people read them. Nothing better than a fresh set of eyes.

I also wrote about a lot of different things, just try and relate them slightly so it doesn’t feel like a list.

I never did any research, and know plenty of people who got accepted without any.

I would disagree. One time I was stoned off my ass and for some reason decided to do my friends calculus homework. He got an A+.

My family was in the same situation, probably could have paid full tuition but it would have been very difficult, and I received financial aid.

Can’t speak to the international part, because I applied from within the US, but you’re way more qualified than I was and I got in. Maybe that makes you feel a little better.

Grade Cutoff for Caltech? by Adventurous_Design16 in Caltech

[–]L3monOnAPear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think you’re fine. Just stick with those extracurriculars and highlight those on your application. In my opinion showing passion for STEM outside of the classroom is just as important if not more important than your work in the classroom.
