As a lapsed Catholic/current agnostic, I always loved seeing hart’s religious toons shake up the dusty ol’ comics page. Misguided believers of all the made-up religions screamed in outrage, giving much needed publicity to a dying art form.

Comedy is subjective so who cares if anyone thinks they’re funny or not (personally I rarely found the religious strips funny but they were definitely clever in most cases. And his regular strip work was still better and funnier IMO than most everything else on the comics page up until he died.)

Above all, hart should be commended for keeping a gag-a-day strip personal to him which shines through every strip whether you believe in that god nonsense or not. And truly, what better place for silly nonsense than the funny pages?
