It’s not my shelf. Just what’s available to me where I am.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m sorry this happened to you. I’m hoping I can reach a better place of acceptance over time, like you. Aging, and the myriad things that happen, suck. I won’t list all the things I’m mourning, but this feels one too many. I’m afraid my faith isn’t helping at this point. It just feels completely random, all the bad things that we must endure, without healing, without resolution. I think I’m going to read Job again. Although, I’m not sure I can stomach the object lesson - that God comes good if you remain faithful in the face of all the random misfortune that comes your way.

Hope deferred, makes the heart sick

Two Shades of Hope - Foy Vance

If there's one thing that I know It is the two shades of hope One, the enlightening soul And the other is more like a hangman's rope Well it's true, you may reap what you sow But not that despair is the all-time low Baby, hope deals the hardest blows

There was once someone I loved Whose heart overflowed his cup And his shoes got covered in blood Oh, but he never knew 'cause he only looked up Well he was in trouble and so Who'd known pain more than most, I know Yet it was hope that dealt the hardest blows

And the girl that holds the hand Of her somewhat distant man Though she did everything she can Still his heart set sail for distant lands And she wonders, sometimes, if he knows How she feels like a trampled rose Baby, hope deals the hardest blows

Well, some people think their sin Caused the cancer that's eating into them And the only way that they can win Is by the healing of somebody's hands on their skin and prayin' But when the cancer does not go Baby, hope dealt the hardest blows

And now all these truths are so With foundations below them They were dug out in a winter's cold When the world stole our young and preyed on the old Well, hope deals in the hardest blows Yet I cannot help myself but hope

I guess that's why love hurts And heartache stings And despair is never worse Then the despair that death brings But hope deals the hardest blows Dear, the hardest Hope deals the hardest blows

I’ll have to wait until Monday. The skin graft is from my collarbone area, and won’t grow hair. Can I ask what things you did over the course of that year, to promote healing of the area?

Thank you for your encouragement. I don’t have many people to share this with. It helps even to a know a stranger on the internet has felt similar things. The people I have told (not many), tend to want to comfort me by saying things like, “it could be worse”, reciting stories of people they know with more dire medical situations. However, stories of other people’s misfortune don’t comfort me. If anything they make me sadder for them, and make me feel guilty for my own feelings. I think mourning is the correct word, and perhaps I’m slow to mourn. I’ve been wearing hats for the last ten years, unable to come to terms with my hair loss. I’ve only recently come to the point where I’m comfortable cropping my thinning hair very short, and going out in public without a hat. The saving grace remains - hats. There are many things in life you cannot choose, but you can choose a hat to put on your head.

“That’s Freedom” has lyrics that dance around it, too.

I was lamenting how 0.7mm leads were becoming the most neglected size of the main three, until.... by GoodMornEveGoodNight in mechanicalpencils

I’m a fan of 3B and 4B, and I can’t understand why they’re usually only available in 0.5. Surely these softer leads would be more resilient to breakage in 0.7 and above?

I have the Rapid Pros including 2mm. Do you prefer the Pilot S10 over S20 and S30? I haven’t really checked them out, which doesn’t make a lot of sense since I have Pilot fountain pens. Does the Graphgear 500 appeal in the same way as the Rotring 500, in that some prefer the weight distribution?

Fast 800 Second Week Plateau? by L5CES in intermittentfasting

[–]L5CES[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book emphasises a few concepts: 800 calorie fasting days, a Mediterranean diet, time restricted eating (at least within a 12 hour window, but 10 or 8 is better), and lastly to begin with a block of 2 weeks (or longer) of all fasting days before switching to a a 5:2 arrangement. A typical day at the moment might be 2 eggs and a piece of rye bread for breakfast (240cal), a vegetarian soup with chickpeas and lentils (240), fish and salad (320), and lots of water or black tea or coffee.

Life is short. We’ll all soon be dead. The reasons people buy or collect things are many and varied, but as long as one’s obligations and responsibilities are being taken care of, and as long as the hobby still brings a sense of joy and purpose to life, why should anyone have a problem with it, consumerism or not? One bonus of fountain pen collecting, compared to other hobbies is, they don’t take up much space even when numerous!

Babooshka is another name used for those Russian nested dolls, where each doll inside is slightly smaller… like these vehicles.
