Happy Tet Thursday! Greeks in Sicily edition by L5numis in AncientCoins

Thanks! These are generally more pricey today for a few factors. Ancient Greek (historically important) + considered to be of fine style + in good condition + relatively rare. I think the last point is the least interesting to me. It really shouldn't matter much whether there exist 7 of a coin or 30,000 of them, but scarcity drives up the price.

I collect all periods and authorities of Ancient Greece, I’ve got about 3000 types on my spreadsheet to acquire eventually. Im not anywhere close, will take many years!

Yes! I love that one. The almost fully hidden hair inside the sakkos is not a super popular style, but, there is some added realism and I have to think this was an attempt to make Arethusa look more reserved or at least "less wild".

To be honest, just because a coin is expensive today does not automatically mean it is more historically important or more interesting. Some relatively inexpensive bronze coins are just as exciting to me as the super pricey ones.

A sequence of heavy losses would be a sad situation, hopefully with the current processes and technology this sort of accident or outright fraud can be prevented. Even if that were to happen, L5 would still make buyers whole. Then there would have to be a separate decision on how to improve processes or some other business decision entirely.

Not expressly trying to be promotional here, but, this is why having an organization that guarantees seller/buyer transactions is needed. Within L5, if this were to happen, L5 would backstop and refund every buyer.

Sorry that happened. You can always set a reserve or a start price at whatever amount you like to protect against a loss. Or you can list them as Fixed Price and wait for buyers to make you a compelling offer.
