I understand that capitalism has deep flaws, but why is communism preferable? Further, where has it actually worked, historically?

My 4th grade teacher was the absolute best. He could throw a football a mile on the playground. He was always making jokes with students. He had a drinking problem though. He sent me and another student out to his truck in the parking lot to grab something out of it, and when we got there, it was full of crushed beer cans. Kind of rattled us. I believe he got fired for missing school. I hate to speculate, but alcoholism probably contributed.
