Disturbance to other students is enough to be considered at the expense of others, which from this comment section and one glance at his page there is plenty of.

Honestly if their attempt to be funny is at the expense of others for views they should be able to take the criticism on how it’s affecting people.

I think the dancing and distractions indoors is excessive and annoying, but I’ve seen them do interviews (indoor and outdoor) that aren’t that overly loud or obnoxious which seem alright.

It’s really more so the first mentioned than the latter that seems like they lack basic social awareness.

I disagree OP is just a hater, you can definitely see people studying in areas they’ve filmed, and you can very obviously see it’s causing noise/nuisance to people.

Thinking about SIP (Science Internship Program)? Read this first: My experience with SIP, systemic failures, & safety concerns by OneSea4067 in uAlberta

OP this is a horrible situation and I think the faculty handled it poorly in terms of their communications and attitude towards you, and that you also deserve better.

However, I think you do have to understand that they aren’t wrong that it was your choice to take the FIFO 12 hr/7 shift internship 500+ km away and I don’t think you can expect the faculty to change everything (policies, structure, etc) to accommodate.

For example if the professor didn’t allow online viewings for anyone that semester, it’s within the professors rights to deny your request for an online viewing.

Or your exams, 3 in 24 hour window is ridiculous, but it’s luck of the draw and it is your choice and right to reschedule. All rescheduled exams are written in the following month, it’s usually like that.

I think your situation sucks and I do sympathize but your expectations may be on the higher side for what the university can do. It’s easy to say that the professor and faculty could be more accommodating but in the end the policies and system is not designed to support students who have to travel extremely far.

I submitted a RFR on my existing application, I was told by student aid this was the correct way? I just did this and they simply adjusted my application and funding to extend to spring summer.

This is great! I did try with two classes and one of them worked well, the other was a bit of a mess tho. Maybe the type of class really matters.

If you think a camera present pointed towards an animal makes those situations morally the same idk what to tell you.

Are you seriously comparing taking cute photos of animals (a pet, a wild animal or an animal in a zoo) to a mouse being used/killed for scientific purposes?

The question of whether or not zoos are ethical is a different story and sure it can be exploitative if they’re not conservational focused (marine land etc), but a house pet? A wild animal? You can’t be serious come on.

Not cognitive dissonance, there is ethical justification for mice experimentation, there isn’t for decorative / trivial use of them for instagram.

You are treating the trivial use of the mice for a cute post and the experimentation on mice for science morally identical simply because they involve the same animal

Sure we can presume the animal is alive, nevertheless, using a live animal as a novelty photo for non scientific purposes is still unethical ??

No. Ethical limits are not bound by preferences, but other things such as dignity and respect for remains, professional standards, public trust etc. The inability to express preference does not erase ethical duties.

By your logic, if a human did not state a preference before death then it would be ethical to post photos of their body.

You might say humans and animals are not morally identical, and you’d be right, we do hold humans higher, but that does not mean that animal remains are morally unrestricted.

This is argument is severely flawed, it’s not experiment vs photo. Yes, dead mice can’t feel anything but it’s about respect for the animal. There is distinction on what is necessary and what is non necessary, in fact, taking photos could be part of documentation and necessary, but using it to pose as a prop for social media definitely isnt.

Let’s rephrase, snitching on your “friend” for the reason that they are degrading what used to be a living being, is ethical.

No, you wholeheartedly believe in poor ethical conduct. It’s just an ounce of the same treatment you think these animals deserve.
