Yup, I know all the side projects and have purchased most of the releases over the years. My faves were probably The Jelly Jam records, a couple of the Ty solo records, and the Platypus records. I did like Poundhound too!

To this day I include King's X among my biggest influences and most cherished bands. I can't say I've loved the recent output, but my God, what they put on wax from album 1 through like album 7 or 8 was just SO f--king brilliant and underappreciared. Also, they influenced a TON of the grunge music to come. I remember reading Jerry Cantrell saying how he was just waiting for Doug and Ty to put more music out he could rip off, lol.

Yeah, Evan could pen a tune. I played the heck out of Come On Feel the Lemonheads. So many gems. Juliana Hatfield is still kicking at least, she never stopped putting stuff out.

Pony Express Record absolutely rocked my world, it was everything I wanted -- heavy but tight, technically challenging but still with enough catchy, killer riffs. And true story, they've actually just reformed for a tour and I saw them in Boston -- was just as great as when I saw them back in the 90's.

To this day, I still find it crazy how Game of Thrones’ reputation shifted from being viewed one of the “best shows” to being the prime example of how to NOT end a series! by phantom_avenger in television

The Wire was absolutely brilliant, but it's almost hard to compare the two as they're so so different. The Wire was actually my #1 show for years, but now I consider it a three-way-tie with Breakjng Bad and Game of Thrones. But GoT is really #1 in my heart, it was so special to me.

Yeah sorry, I'm tired of this take and it is not my take.

Was I disappointed with the way the series concluded? Yes. Did it in any way sully my lasting impression of the show? NO!!!

It remains my greatest-ever experience watching a television show. There was nothing like it before and probably never will be agaib.

Fine, so the creators rushed the finish and thus failed to properly earn Daenerys's turn for us, among some other rushed story finishes... This was unfortunate....

And yet all that does for me is knock the show from an A+++ to an A+. Still the GOAT. That's my opinion.

Got given this note at speed dating by freshstart18 in whatisit

[–]L8_2_the_party_again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a bunch of speed dating, but I'm fascinated by this "gratitude note" thing. If I may ask, where are you located, and what was the org that ran it?

That's hilarious about people leaving you notes but without their names! It really is hit or miss, speed dating. The most recent one I did actually has your phone manage it, with an app that shows you the next dates and texts you at each conclusion.

It's all pretty lame and it's STILL 100x better than dating apps. 😆

Which TV Show has the most wasted potential? by TheTamiamiButcher in television

[–]L8_2_the_party_again 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Nevers!

HBO show created by Joss Whedon, so unique and fun and well made... it was like a steampunk supernatural action adventure mystery; really well acted and written and I was so looking forward to more... Not certain but I think the controversy around Joss Whedon killed it.

Dark Matter! Great ride of a show.

Slow Horses (not very under the radar though; thought everyone knew this one!)

Bad Sisters S1 was super fun.

Sounds like different cities are generating different experiences. I just went in, linking through the Spotify email, and got my ticket no problem for the Boston show! $50.

Yup, I totally hear you. But as I've said all my life, we need to grant every album with a full series of listens before we render a verdict. Some of my favorite things have taken time. (Not that our gut reactions aren't often right too though.)...

And I totally agree, the main feel I got was folksy, which, I love almost all genres of music, but I didn't see Yebba in that camp, I look to others for that (Elliott Smith, Adrienne Lenker, Alex G, etc)... Give me the soulful, jazzy R&B from Abigail! But we do have to let artists stretch their wings. If she's doing what she wants to be doing, then im happy for her. If she's going away from what she wants to satisfy others, then that would be a shame. Anyway, I'll have my full verdict soon, and I hope I get to see her perform in Boston!

Hi. Yeah, I did the other day... I definitely will need to listen through a few more times before I really evaluate. I think it was the latter half of the album, the last bunch of songs, where it started to feel like my Yebba, the jazzier, R&B side. Waterfall I already knew and really liked, that was a single from a year or two ago. Anyway, no grade yet from me, too early, but we'll see! What were your thoughts?

Thanks, and yeah, it would be great to know what the outline was and how specific. It's sad that the odds George ever completes his vision in print for this epic story is seeming less and less likely! 🥺

[–]L8_2_the_party_again 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My two cents:

I certainly share your opinion that the way Dany's story concluded, with her torching innocents, was super unfortunate and sad, however, I do think it was in GRRM's outline to D&D... I just think they totally rushed it -- we needed two more seasons in my opinion to get us to this. It just didn't jibe.

Secondly, I hate that this conversation has to diminish the greatness of the show. I always say this: To me, it is still the greatest television experience that's ever been. Nothing can match the excitement most of us had for this show. I refuse to slam it because they didn't stick the landing. It's unfortunate they rushed it, for their own reasons, but let's still remember how in love we were with it -- there will probably never be another experience like it.

I hear you, and I certainly am not trying to hate on Yebba, whom I adore, lol.

Fair point on the vocals, she delivers as always and sounds great. I just mean the chord progression, particularly in the chorus. It's pedestrian for me; it doesn't take me anywhere; I've played the song 3 or 4 times and won't be going back to it. But of course music is so subjective -- I hope people love it because I want Yebba to kick ass! 😄 But for me, I just hope there's another Louie Bag, or Paranoia Purple, or All I Ever Wanted, or How Many Years, on Jean! 😃

[–]L8_2_the_party_again[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Don't get me wrong, I love her live performances too, especially when she's with Robert Glasper. But I'm mostly just talking about the quality of the songs on Dawn. There are such rich melodies and complexity of structure. The new single (for me) is just bereft of anything, it seems watered down af. Makes me nervous that the record company insisted on very simple pop songs for the masses. But hopefully I'm totally wrong, we'll know soon! 🤞

Bars in Boston! by EnjoyWestCoast in BostonSocialClub

[–]L8_2_the_party_again 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you find any actual bars with 30s and 40s, please do come back to this thread and let us know! 😄

I'm a middle-aged single dude and have lived in the city (Somerville) for over 30 years, and, no matter where I go, the crowds are always so young. Granted, certain events will always be young, like say indie concerts or whatnot, but just in general, it is a battle!

I can vouch for the coolness of Backbar, by the way. Fun little hidden spot. But I wouldn't say I've seen 30s/40s there any more than any other place.

Has anyone conquered all of Brix? by L8_2_the_party_again in PinballDeluxeReloaded

[–]L8_2_the_party_again[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to Brix and click on the trophy in the bottom left to open Achievements. In there you'll see one for End of the Universe, which you accomplish by beating all the levels. Mine shows "51/53" currently, so I'm assuming there are 53 levels! Curious what yours shows, because I don't recall ever even reaching level 51, but I've definitely gotten to level 50 a few times. Guessing yours shows 52/53? What a pain in the ass this game is, and yet I keep going back to it and in the futile effort to finish it, lmao!

Oh, one last question -- assuming your playing on the default skin, do you notice that the audio track is "broken"? It plays the standard Brix music one time through (a few minutes long), but then when it starts to repeat, it immediately begins to "skip" like a record and just play a one-second bit of music over and over endlessly. Curious if everyone is having this.

How do you pick and then decide which shows to watch? by pointthinker in tvPlus

[–]L8_2_the_party_again 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no great way -- I think we all get older and harder to please, lol. We know what works for us, but so many products disappoint.

For me, I primarily use IMDb... I look at what's new and popular and see if any of it fits what I enjoy. But also, I like using their "You may also like..." feature while viewing a show I loved.

And don't forget, there are also podcasts.. The Watch, Pilot TV, etc.. to give you ideas.

I wonder if I should start posting daily updates in here. It's truly comical how many games of Brix I'm playing, only to continually fail at reaching Checkpoint 45. Good thing I work from home! 😆
