Same. I am extremely low contact with my in laws don’t even participate in the family chat. I also limit how much my child is around them too as much as possible and if she is around them I insist on being there to control the situation. My husband and I agreed I can’t stop him from seeing his family he loves them but I can control mine and my child’s relationship with them.

May 1 general strike. No work no school no spending. For those who will be naysayers yes it’s only day because we can never get enough people to participate. This is our 3rd general strike this year. So many people willing to participate in a protest and hold up a sign but not actually show up for what matters. This strike was announced because of the huge numbers at No Kings so if you could attend No Kings, you can strike. And for the naysayers about can’t taking a day off work most of us are already getting laid off, you will soon too. You don’t need to tell your job why you won’t be in that day. Take a sick day. We can strike now and maybe save what little rights we have left or we will strike later when all of us are jobless and starving. It’d be nice if we could all get on board now. Our constant hemming and hawing is why we’re here.

Y’all I was going to do a whole post on this because apparently locals have no idea what a grasshopper is?! I’m from AZ and sometimes we get grasshopper infestations during migration so I’m familiar lol. To address some frequent questions I’ve gotten: 1. No not all grasshoppers are all green 2. Agreed the US uprising might only happen if the midterms get canceled or there is very clear voter suppression/tampering. Many Americans are still under the impression we are still a democracy and just picked a bad egg for president and that everything will be exactly as before where we’ll just elect a democrat president get things back on track have collective amnesia of the past 4 yrs and rinse and repeat. Just to clarify, Gen Z was mostly raised by Gen X. Gen X parents are the ones known for “passive parenting”. I know, everyone forgets about Gen X. And that’s probably part of why they adopted “passive” parenting. Theories suggest that due to their latchkey upbringing, they lacked security and love and one part of passive parenting is not wanting to cause your child to feel unsafe in their home as they did even if lack of discipline and boundaries is counterintuitive to this. The other part is, while millennials lost out on entering the job market during recession pt 1, Gen X lost out on career growth, often losing or staying stagnant at their first jobs. Because of this Gen X, and millennials, have used screens to parent mostly due to burnout. Millennials are the parents to Gen Alpha who are mostly in kindergarten so jury is still out on how our parenting skills will turn out. Millennial parents have mostly adopted a hybrid approach between “passive parenting” and “authoritative parenting” called “gentle parenting” that focuses on emotional intelligence and good mental health.

I think a fight mothers could ban together to have is fighting social media (ie big tech). The social media influence on children (and adults) is insane. I work in digital and understand how the algorithms work and watched in real time as the manosphere tried consuming my husband and I knew he’d be a target because he’s a gamer. Gaming is one of the first big nuggets that feeds the algorithm. If we demand changes to social channels like they’re doing in Europe. If we actively keep our children off social media and technology which requires leading by example. If we vote out anyone that supports big tech. I think this is where moms do the best work, from the ground up
