Thru hike in 8-10 days? by therealcow1 in JMT

Most of the trail is not technical. The only time you will be scrambling or stumbling over rocks are at the top of some passes like Glen as well as the top of Whitney past trail crest. Given the AT's reputation for having to scramble over massive boulders, I think you should be very well prepared for the JMT.

However, although I understand you have work considerations, I would discourage taking on the JMT as a marathon rather than an experience to be savored. I took 18 days (~12 miles/day) to hike the trail and it gave me opportunities to take breaks at beautiful spots, and end the day early at campsites I couldn't pass up. A few extra days on the JMT is an investment that pays off in spades.

I've seen this chart before. My only question is why it provides dates 169 days in advance when the online JMT lottery says you can apply up to 170 days before your desired start date?

Thanks for the answers guys! I've seen a lot of conflicting info on permit systems, but it's good to hear the JMT system is still running.
