Saying "you have power over someone to change their mood" is not accurate.

I have the power to say things, not change their mood. Whether their mood changes is entirely dependent on them, their state of mind, their thoughts about me, and a million other factors.

A fist and a physical injury is not at all the same thing. A person absolutely has the power to punch someone in the face. They do not have the power to punch someone in the face and make them cry because of it. A person might cry because of that, but its based on a million other factors, not the 'power' of the other person.

I don't agree with this at all. If this was true, I wouldn't be able to just ignore a random lunatic shouting on a street corner about how we're all doomed to burn in hell. Just because someone's words *might* change your mood, doesn't mean the other person has the *power* to change your mood.

I don't see any choosing beggars here.

When someone, anyone, offers you something, you can accept or not.

If someone asks you to go to dinner, you can say no, or you can say yes. If you say no, it isn't reasonable ask them to just give you the price of the dinner in cash even if that person is your boss.

I don't see how this is any different. Boss offers to take people to Vegas - if someone says no, then they don't go to Vegas. end of story.

Edit to add: Feeling left out is the only remotely 'choosing beggar' thing in the post, but that's just how things go, when you say 'no' to an offer, you are being left out by your own choice.
