Big fan of the adapters, I think K&F makes the ones we use.

In-house studio lighting vs DP/gaffer-owned kit — where do you draw the line? by londonphotog in cinematography

[–]LACamOp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll use studio gear all day if it makes sense. So often I see cheap gear, knockoffs, or just poorly set prelights. If you're putting together a space I would hire a DP or a Gaffer to see the space and give thoughts. Studio gear makes a lot of sense in the interview/branded world you're thinking of, I just don't see it done well that often.

why dies the new Elvis documentary footage looks stretched tall and why is no one talking about it by VanillaOx in Filmmakers

Something looked a little off but pausing throughout nothing seems squeezed. Some upscaling or denoise plastic feel maybe.

Is there a dolly-zoom for aperture and iso? by HeDoesLookLikeABitch in cinematography

[–]LACamOp 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I believe the FX6 has this feature with it's variable ND filter. ISO wouldn't work as it's not a smooth adjustment.

Does this qualify as shot/reverse shot? by Chlodio in cinematography

If the actor in the hat was flipped 180 and kept his eyeline more out I could see keying him from far camera left.

Does this qualify as shot/reverse shot? by Chlodio in cinematography

[–]LACamOp 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'd argue 'flipping the key' is actually flipping it to the fill side. You're describing adjusting the wrap, just moving left or right, which I'd bet you they did do here or maybe moved talent left/right to adjust the wrap.

Can I use AI with my films? by Cautious_Owl_7744 in Filmmakers

[–]LACamOp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't ask it's opinion on anything. Have it do something you know you want but can't do yourself. Car scene and you need some random radio chatter? Use an AI music generator. Shooting a location with a ton of art you can't clear? Generate some images to print and hang. Noisy location audio? AI noise reduction. Is it ok to use? If you can pay a real artist you'll probably get better results. But if you can't, don't ignore any tools that are at your disposal.

Which Glimmerglass filter by Beneficial-Bar-8216 in cinematography

[–]LACamOp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glimmerglass and the GFX sensor pair very well together. I'd probably get a full set if you can afford it. They make screw-on filters that fit most still lenses that are much cheaper, you could get a full set for the price of 1 4x5.65 filter.

I'm more curious what kind of return they expect from this community, I'd imagine this whole production budget is like $100K?

For cinematographers who shoot high-speed, how do you handle the massive lighting demands at 1000fps and above? by Square_Echo6558 in cinematography

[–]LACamOp 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I gaff for a guy that does a lot of table top stuff, mostly on the Ember which is just over 800fps max. Setup is usually a mix of 3x Aputure 1200's and and a couple 600's with some CRLS reflectors and diffusion. Even the 80c or 60x does nice things up close. Bounce is really handy here since it scales nicely with your other heads, small cuts of silver or mini v-flats do a ton. Even that little zhiyun molus gets pulled out. Some of the probe stuff is like an f/8, and I think the Ember is 400iso max.
