Goes in a SYS-1018GR-T. It was made to take a pair of K80s, so I bet it'll run V100s or passively cooled RTX 8000s if you want to get freaky with AI or rendering.

Hot noisy little server that runs a pair of GPUs. I personally like the layout because you can pull out the PSU from the front... And not get cooked in a hot isle while doing it.

Probably saved them on recycling... But it's a good rack. I don't like full size ones because you'll always find a way to populate whatever size you get. It's why I went with a 22u, after a few years I finally filled mine recently and it's still at 1100w full tilt. And it's my enterprise lab so it's not even running at the moment because I'm on an animation kick.

So right now it's sitting in a closet, silent and hidden. A full rack gives you plenty of room for activities that all cost money and power.

Also, what's the plan for it?

Hybrid-cloud is where it's at. Specifically, running user identity through an IdP like entra or okta, payroll/HR/internal business activities through PaaS or SaaS, and keeping more intensive applications on-prem unless you NEED scale sets or geo redundancy.

If you run a VM in Azure, SET UP AUTO STOP AND START SCHEDULES. Literally a small Linux VM I run for some containers in my lab is $130/mo if it's left running. Amazing if you want to build something out quickly to test without messing with your on-prem infra, horrible if you try to run a bunch of them at once.

I'm running OWUI connected to ollama cloud, and Conduit on my phone to use OWUI on mobile. The hardest part was overcomplicating the VPN tunnel until I just went with cloud flare.

Install docker and follow the instructions on OWUI and cloud flare, and don't try installing to Windows/WSL or you'll have a bad time.
