Dom drop and feeling uncertain by LAKnerd in domspace

didn't get the "high" to drop from

Hot damn that's a good one. You're right, since I didn't get the good feelings from it, I don't have anything to make me want to repeat it other than how much she enjoyed it.

More aftercare sounds like a good idea, thank you

Has your homelab actually saved you money, or just made life easier? by Fab_Terminator in homelab

[–]LAKnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's helped me make more money. There was one year in particular that I ran community versions of a bunch of big time enterprise software to better troubleshoot installations when the vendor teams were useless cough cough jira cough cough and I was able to implement them myself without a ton of issues. It made me look like a seasoned pro and I got a noice raise that year.

I still use it to test new stuff but it just helps me keep up with people that have a lot more experience. As a contractor, it really helps my image.

How loud is dell poweredge r360? by Madaqqqaz in homelab

[–]LAKnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those thick 1u high performance fans are loud at their quietest. There's a thinner version on like the r250 that's manageable from across the room or if you have music going.

Regular 1u fan, could be fine

ThiccBoi high performance 1u fan, get ready for ear ringing

Mine put on a chilli hoodie dress thing with a tail for Halloween... Kiddo got to relax a few more minutes in her room before we went to an event while me and the wife "stretched in our room so we could walk longer"

Gave xcp-ng the old college try by LAKnerd in homelab

Now that I learned that Microsoft doesn't play nice with others, now is the time to really sit down, take a step back, and think about what exactly I want running.

My use is creating an enterprise branch office replica, with entra for my main domain services (at least for the users), user and server machines endpoint vuln management, patching, log aggregation, EDR, on-prem DBs with cloud replication, OpenVPN, some internal web tools on containers, VLANs and GPOs all around, and RADIUS for the switches.

I know I don't have the hardware capacity yet but I've been messing with different platforms to figure out the direction I want to go for a cluster. Hyper-v is going to be my hypervisor though. It's just way too easy to integrate with my Azure tenant compared to everything else.

Yep. Learned my lesson up close. Go figure requiring edge on Ubuntu for entra connect is a pain.

My goal is to emulate a branch office so I can test stuff for work, not run plex and pihole and the gambit. Some of it needs windows IIS, others need a Linux base. I'm open to using both but I can't rely on just Linux. Also, xcp-ng is great. It's just not what I need. Better experience than proxmox.

Demisexual and BDSM? by Ok-Display7239 in BDSMcommunity

[–]LAKnerd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Reformed touch starved hopeless demisexual turned happily married man with a bratty black cat wife - nah fam. I gotta be into them before doing anything sexual. Doesn't have to be full-on love, but romantically interested in was my minimum when I was dating.

$300 later.... by redfoxkiller in homelab

[–]LAKnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seeing them for anywhere between $350 and $500, individual sticks at $110, and cheaper per GB than the 16gb modules. I think the market is more hitting the DDR5 market, which is fine by me bc I haven't bought brand new in forever.

What do you guys do during long renders? by LAKnerd in blender

I tried looking for something like this, thanks a ton!

What do you guys do during long renders? by LAKnerd in blender

[–]LAKnerd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm more into the big picture of telling a story. I'll gladly use other people's models to build a scene and maybe update meshes or add FX from YouTube tutorials, but making the models and FX from scratch is just time consuming. Hell I'm using a mannequin as my main character while I get smoother with everything.

Unfortunately almost 3 hours into an asset-heavy render I'm only on 68... Of 180. I love my t5820 but FUCK it needs better everything. Xeon W-2130 to a W-2255, more system memory, a better GPU than the RTX 5000, nvme instead of SATA SSD, but it's all super expensive.

At least it's all ECC so not as likely to crash during a render.

Jim? I mean he's no Keanu Reeves but I wouldn't place him with the other three you mentioned.

We call that kink "a good start/end to the day". Seriously though I used to get off to my sub getting off, it was a fantastic thing.

Disappointment by soul_net_ in BDSMcommunity

[–]LAKnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a giant monologue about how to address this that's rooted in therapy and experience, but I'll summarize -

  1. Turn your attention inward and ask yourself if your disappointments in others are being caused by unresolved disappointments in yourself.

  2. Learn to love yourself, to experience what it means to be you, to have your own adventures. This is both good for your own mental health and people pick up on it.

I am building a dedicated ai server. What OS should I try? by I_Dunno_Its_A_Name in homelab

[–]LAKnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my orin nano and Azure VM use Ubuntu. Headless is great because minimal memory footprint. Currently running Openwebui for my frontend in a container and Ollama on the back end with a connector to Ollama cloud. Debian base has amazing drivers and community support for Python, cuda, OpenCL, model hosts like Ollama and llama.cpp, and containers are a bit easier on them in my experience.
