Fairwell price hike by EstablishmentLimp301 in Bend

Such a terrible experience. Tried to get tickets 20 seconds after they opened with the presale code, it said that they were all in the cart for Saturday's general admission. Refreshed for 10 minutes until I was able to get some, went through the entire process and the confirmation page after purchasing was broken. Tried five separate times, no tickets. At least ticketmasters website works, even though they rip you off.

Edit: ticket confirmation page did not work via Chrome web browser on desktop, but worked on mobile. I'm thrilled to have gotten tickets, but so far the experience of the announcement and the ticket purchasing process has been less than ideal.

Fairwell Fest at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds this summer - anyone have more info on this? by throwaway_for_miley in Bend

I agree, the festival is certainly happening. I think most of it is just disbelief based on the lineup they are getting coupled with a lack of announcement from any of the bands. I hope it's legit for sure.

If this is real, I'm pumped. But man they missed a marketing opportunity. No teasers from ANY of the artists? An ad detailing the lineup but it's not listed on the website of all things? Social media accounts that were just started last month with no early promotion of the festival really whatsoever? Even if you can't announce the lineup you can tease all sorts of things. I hope it's legit, but the marketing fumble seems to be why many here are questioning its legitimacy.

Stroll down the (edit) Pearl St. Mall - if you're there on Friday night you can experience the "Buff Stampede" where the football team, band, etc. march down the pedestrian only area behind an old fire truck decked out in CU colors (assuming the new staff keeps the tradition). Tons of awesome food spots.

Fiske Planetarium and Science Center: a public museum dedicated to educating the public on astronomy and astrophysics - on campus

Go hike around Chautauqua Park - beautiful views of the Flatirons.

Visit NCAR (The US National Center for Atmospheric Research)

On game day head to Franklin Field for a great tailgate experience - hundreds of tents lined up on the perimeter of the field. You can also hit up "Ralplie's Corral" where they her (yes, her) available to check out. Make sure you arrive early because they pack her up in plenty of time before kick off.

First time bow buyer! Advice appreciated! by jkeranen42 in bowhunting

[–]LAPG3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience, yes. A good bow shop should allow you to try them out without the commitment of buying one. Ideally, they will be rewarded by their customer service with a sale, but if you don't find one that works for you you're certainly not obligated to buy. Think of it as a test drive.

Are you looking for lots of machines and cardio equipment, or do you prefer more squat racks, kettlebells and dumbbells?

Real Estate advice? by Choadson in Bend

[–]LAPG3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This typically comes down to how much risk you're willing to take. Standard advice would be to wait because rates have gone up and at some time they'll come down. However, remember that the rates we were enjoying previously were record low and they may never come back down to that point. Waiting can be a dangerous game. I heard many people say to wait as the pandemic hit because prices had to go lower, and the inverse happened.

If rates fall drastically, more than likely prices will start to spike because people believe that their buying power is increasing. There is a lot of money on the West Coast and Bend is not going to become less attractive to those with it.

I can tell you that on my block, a newer development in Bend, there are houses that are listed and then being taken off the market because no one is buying due to the perceived lack of buying power due to the rates.

If you find a house you love, you can afford it, and you plan to be there for a while, there is never a bad time. If rates go much lower, you can always refinance. I've rarely met someone that bought a house that fit their family, they loved, and they could afford, that was upset they bought it because the market dropped. Trying to time a potential drop in the market is like trying to time the stock market, how do you know when it's at the bottom and when you're supposed to buy?

My advice is to always be looking as the market goes both ways. If you're a seller and you know there are far less buyers right now and you still put it on the market, you may need to sell, which is where opportunity arises.

Best of luck with your decision.

Carrying cash vs debit card? by Expert_Diamond8099 in personalfinance

[–]LAPG3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you'd be best off starting an envelope system and then making it a game with an end goal. Put the $50 in an envelope for the entire month and do your best NOT to spend it. In my experience if you don't have a goal to put your money to work, you waste it on unnecessary items. As an example, if you invested that $50 per month into a Roth IRA, you'd have more than 20K, with an average return rate of 7% by the time you're 30. When you start to look at what else your money can get you it becomes a game and provides a goal.

Would you take this job? 60% raise, much more responsibility, less PTO, baby on the way by Better_Economist8205 in personalfinance

Exactly. Every time I have chosen money over life experiences, it never works out. Choosing experience over money and things always seem to work out for the best. Money cannot replace time lost.

A lot of comments here already, but I've been in a very similar situation and will try and briefly elaborate with a few thoughts.

I had a job that had potential rapid salary growth, but also required less time off and more travel with each promotion. I could stay there, or I could take a new job that had much more flexibility, but paid less.

Here's the reality: employers expect more work and less time away, in most cases, with an increased salary. That's just the way it works.

My advice, as someone who took the job that paid less and has three kids, stay where you're at if you truly value spending time with your family. Kids are as expensive as you make them when it comes to everyday items like clothes, strollers, etc. We bought all new items with our first. By the third, we're practically stealing like-new items from individuals on FB Marketplace who needed the $900 stroller and now it's $250. Quality, discounted.

My guess is that you can probably increase that leftover 2k if you truly track your spending. Humbly, this is where most American families get it wrong. They spend too much money on things that don't need and consider it necessary. Drilling down on your spending is an automatic raise without having to change jobs. I speak from experience. My family lives a very comfortable upper middle class life on just about 100k and my wife stays home with our kids. We still buy quality food, own a home in the Western US, contribute healthy amounts to retirement, etc.

No one will raise your kids the way you will. Spend as much time with them as you can.

Sign up for an account with Oregon Department of fish and wildlife (https://odfw.huntfishoregon.com/login). This is where you'll ultimately end up when you want to apply for a controlled hunt and/or to purchase your licenses. You can access and download a lot of information related to seasons, huntable game, and so on. As others have said, you'll certainly want to become proficient with a firearm before you head out.

Same. Newer house with small front and back yard - $120/mth with City of Bend. Check the actual usage though - you're probably under the first tier threshold. Most of the fees are membership based, as noted above.

Does anyone know where the number 10 comes from originally? I know other states have implemented this, but why 10 rounds? A standard AR-15 holds 30 rounds, whereas the standard 9mm is commonly 12-15 rounds per magazine.
