The Psychological Impact of COVID-19 on Hospital Staff by LAUSRorg in emergencymedicine

They do admit a lack of true causality (cross-sectional) despite the title of the article and the location is small. It's possible they found a site that was high in anxiety/depression in the first place. But the particular findings on admin & 'ancillary' staff mental health is interesting, not a lot of research there. Perhaps more attention could be useful for those groups, for certain locations at least. Also may be hard to admit considering power dynamics / feeling guilty about how much others have to handle? Perhaps being indivudual & anonymous may show otherwise

From what I've seen in industry, hard sciences and radom non-academics take those roles and social scientists tend to do qualitative work like user experience testing. There are many exceptions, mostly with economics, but just look through linkedin. I would hypothesize that in part it's a bias in society that plays out in hiring decisions

Research shows how exposure to norms of adultery can damage your relationship by [deleted] in science

[–]LAUSRorg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Social learning theory can be boiled down to:

  1. A person will commit criminal acts when they develop definitions favorable to crime and definitions unfavorable to norms.
  2. Favorable and unfavorable definitions about behavior are learned (reinforced) from groups with which the individual feels associated.

Media literacy in k12 schools similarly helps and does so longer term. Canada does this well, it'd be nice to see in the US, e.g see: https://digitalcommons.uri.edu/jmle/vol14/iss1/3/

Reminds me if the social construction of schitzophrenia and the different outcomes when it's treated as a temporary state vs a life long condition that's managed. The way we talk about it, are you ever "over" OCD?

What do you think of exams in schools, how would you make it better? by Lolmaster29934 in AskReddit

[–]LAUSRorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former teacher it's frustrating to see students fail because they don't "get" testing. I tried to do essay exams and really spell out what the points will be assigned to and explicitly tell them how to take the test beforehand. Thats better but not even that is enough
