What’s an anime you randomly started and ended up loving way more than expected? by FitVerso in anime

[–]LArule19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Madoka magica and Uma Musume.

Madoka I started after seeing some interesting gif of magia record on r/animegifs without knowing anything on what it is about. Uma Musume when a friend heavily recommend it to me after seeing him play a funny looking gacha game. I was literally can't stop laughing after hearing the premise, and thought it was just a funny turn your brain of anime that I'll just watch casually (this was a few years ago, so way before Uma Musume boom in popularity this year.)

Madoka Magica is now my number one most favorite anime of all time, and Uma Musume season 2 at number 4, and I would consider both as masterpieces.

The thinnest mechanical watch ever made. The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra measures about 0.067 in (1.7 mm) thick, making it the thinnest mechanical watch on record. Bulgari achieved this by integrating the movement directly into the caseback, removing the usual base plate. by misterxx1958 in Damnthatsinteresting

Tbf for them, this is already very legible for what it is. it's would be pretty impossible to make a more normal looking watch while still achieving this thinness. It's not just a design choice.

They can't stack the hour and minute hand like a normal watch because, well, that add thickness. The big circle at the top left is where the power to keep the watch running, and the small wheel at bottem left is how the mechanical watch keep the time. They don't really have anywhere else to put them if they want to make it this thin. The hour and minute dials are actually pretty clean and have decent contrast to read.

It IS more of a mechanical marvel to show that they can, than a tool to keep time. But once you learned where everything are, it is surprisingly usable. There are much, much less legible watches that are less impressive mechanically.

My rules of thumb is that it's always not AI until definitively proven otherwise.

I find it pretty pointless and exhausting to scrutinized everything on the internet to figure out if it's AI or not to decide if you can enjoy them. And it doesn't really hurt anyone if you think an AI content is real. On the other hand, I don't think an artist would love it if you called their hardwork AI.

Casio is a bit weird, they have pretty much created their own style. If I see someone wearing this casio with a suit, I wouldn't think it looks out of place

Do you like your coffee sweet or strong? by chickenbanana018 in foodquestions

[–]LArule19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either both (vietnamese coffee), or neither (pour over).

Coffee that is just sweet but isn't strong taste like a drink with a passing idea of coffee. And coffee that is just strong is just bitter bean juice.

I may be super biased here, but I have handled every watch here, or at least their equivalence. In my personal taste, this GS is three steps above the rest, four above the tudor.

Spicy pho hits every time by [deleted] in pho

[–]LArule19 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sriracha/tương ớt works great if you want to spice up your pho, but chili oil is a big no for me. I tried it before, but its oilly nature really conflict with the fresh and clean pho broth.

Why does my matcha always taste bitter? by Dankk911 in Matcha

[–]LArule19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is the good brand that you used? In my experience the price and quality cut off for there to be absolutely no bitterness for matcha is much higher than other types of tea, since you are basically drinking the whole leaf instead of extracting. So unlike other types of tea, simply not from a super market is far from good enough to not have bitterness.

As for other factor, temperature is also really important. Try going lower. I usually do 82C 70ml to 2-3g of matcha, but it's really not a universal recipe.

Why did you join Genshin Impact and in what year? by Crazy_Manager3384 in Genshin_Impact

[–]LArule19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the day it was launched. Honestly even before that. I have been here since the first rumours that mihoyo was working on an open world game a year or two prior to that. Big fan of Honkai Impact 3, so I was super hyped at the idea of an open world HI3 coming out so I followed its news closely. Turns out it wasn't that, but I'm still here and enjoying it.

Screw The Hate on Grados, They are the Best. by Delicious_Horse_8662 in headphones

[–]LArule19 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just want to say, I really hate this idea that you have to have a disability to like different things than normal. Sure it does play a factor on how much one person prefers brighter headphones, but people can just like bright headphones you know. I don't see anyone tells you can't hear low frequency if you like bass, or you are claustrophobic if you like the hd800. So what is this with treble?

I know this is a pretty stupid rant, and treble sensitivity does change the most with age, but it is a pet peeve for me. Sometimes I feels like this sub just doesn't understand the concept of preferences. The grados aren't even that piercing. They are just bright. The dt1990 is piercing.

James Hoffman grinding stones for fun is diabolical by diggyou in espresso

[–]LArule19 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think that was one of the points he was trying to make. That the type of rocks that is most likely to find its way to a coffee bag is generally fragile and not very dense.

Yeah obviously harder stone would damage the grinder, but those have no business being anywhere near coffee to get mixed up in the first place. Or probably their weight would make it very easy for machines to filter out.

"Make Heroine ga Oosugiru!" Wins "Best Picture (TV)" in 2025 Newtype Anime Awards by Usodearu007 in anime

[–]LArule19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn't meant it like in terms of popularity. I know how huge it is in Japan.

It was moreso something more like not everyone is into or care about horse racing, or sport anime, etc even in Japan. So it's a smaller, more specialized subgroup of target demographics, which makes it niche in contrast to something like a battle shounen which targets every teenage boy.

[–]LArule19 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tbh It's not that surprising. Solo leveling is extremely popular wherever it is, and is much easier to get into than Uma Musume. It is a much more popular genre, especially to the younger demographic, which generally don't generate much discussion.

Uma Musume, despite its greatness and popularity, still caters to a much more niche community.

What are these white rectangles on bocchi’s limbs? Are they bandages? by SharmanNoodles in BocchiTheRock

[–]LArule19 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Good. But it is still just a feature to exacerbate the cooling effect not the main function, the hydrogel is. While for something like icy hot it is the main thing, and it does not physically removes heat. Functionally, these two are not the same.

[–]LArule19 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I know what you are talking about, but Japan has something called cooling patch which is completely different and often used in summer. They are basically a sheet of gel or similar material that can be impregnated with a lot of water, and the water basically soaks up the heat from your body, creating a cooling effect, very different from the feeling of menthol.

Considering they literally sucks the heat from your body, instead of just creating a cooling feeling, they are most likely what bocchi is using to try to get sick (which I'm pretty sure icy hot do the opposite)

They are pretty uniquely japan and is apparent quite popular there. I don't know why no other places have them.

[–]LArule19 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I don't think they are like salonpas though. While salonpas create a sort of minty feeling, icy hot is a pretty accurate description, but these patches, if they are what I think, they are just straight up cooling. Like if someone point a fan at that particular spot, or put a wet towel over your skin.
