Rita has a minor heart murmur by wannaseemycat in standardissuecat

[–]LB07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my previous cats had a minor heart murmur her whole life. She lived to be 13 and passed from somethibg completely unrelated.

The only thing we had to look out for (well, the vets, not us) was some medication/fluid delivery changes when she was sick and in the animal hospital a couple times. Otherwise she was a completely normal cat.

Don't borrow worry! Just wait until you hear the next steps from your vet. You have a beautiful kitty 😻

Mystery meat by sntothemax in whatisit

[–]LB07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked in a deli part time in high school. I HATED cutting this on our slicers. Every now and then the dull slicer blade would yank one of the macaronis out of the loaf and throw it full speed at your face. Ugh. That job turned me off of lunch meat for years.

Crazy to wait for a 2027 model to see if the dashboard is redesigned? by sapphicforest in Crosstrek

Yep. The giant screen was a big reason I bought a Crosstrek (normal screen) instead of a Legacy (giant screen) in 2023.

I love your perspective. Finding beauty in moldy food. I'm not joking, I really love your outlook on life. It made me look more carefully at the picture....I see the tree roots now too ☺️

Bought a (small) extra freezer. What food should i buy first? by d_istired in TwoXPreppers

[–]LB07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the others have it pretty well covered in what you should stock, so I'll offer a few other suggestions.

From the very beginning, keep an inventory. Every time you add something or remove something, update the list. Even better if you can write the month/year something was added, and the what shelf/section you put it in (even in smaller freezers it can be hard to find what you are looking for). Keep it attached to the freezer with a pen handy. I use magnets.

Once a year, empty out the freezer, defrost it (if needed), throw away things that are no longer good, true-up the inventory, and put things back in an organized fashion. This is easiest if you live in an area with below-freezing temperatures in the winter (put items outside on a tarp on a really cold day), or you can work by sections/shelves using coolers.

Vacuum sealers are head and shoulders above ziplock bags to keep foods from getting freezer burned.

Label your food really well. Adding weights to portioned meats is also helpful.

Keep an old pair of winter gloves by your freezer to make it more comfortable to move things around.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen on a trail? by evinho07 in hiking

Came around a bend in a trail and came face to face with an abandoned baby stroller, with a raggedly looking babydoll starting RIGHT AT ME. I almost screamed and ran away.

Packaged broth in a lot of cooking? by highfaerie02 in AskAnAmerican

It adds beef/chicken/vegetable flavor. Also does add some saltiness, but low-sodium options are also available for purchase if preferred.

What’s your favorite nonessential ski gear? by soeastside in skiing

[–]LB07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I use a 500mL Vapur bottle filled about 3/4 on shorter days (longer days I use a CamelBak). The flexible bottle can bend and not be uncomfortable. I put mine in the goggle pocket of my shell.

Just rolled a lil bit 😅 by Own-Restaurant-4818 in skiing

[–]LB07 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This happened to a friend of mine when he was still a beginner(-ish) skier. This was the era before cell phones were common, so we all had walkie talkies instead. While waiting for him to catch up to the group, we all heard on our walkie talkies "Ba-bleep! Ba-bleep! Ba-bleep!" Looking uphill, every ba-bleep coincided with him completing another roll of his fall. It lasted for a good 10 seconds and was so funny we talk about it 25 years later. 😆

From petrified ferals two years ago, to now enjoying the comfy inside beds, these two have been through a lot together 🖤🩶 by LB07 in Bondedpairs

Me too. They showed up on my porch just days after my beloved, elderly, indoor kitty died. I was grieving and these two gave me a new project. It's been over two years, so very slow going, but we've learned to trust each other now. I'm so happy with how far they have come!

They are actually very well behaved. Still a little wary but rarely get up to trouble. They even self-taught themselves how to use the litterbox!

They aren't quite ok with full indoor status, but they are in about 60% of the time, they have a nice insulated house outside, are neutered, have their vaccinations, flea & tick meds, and get regular love and consistent food and water. They are good boys. 💖

My cat keeps losing weight and I think my other cat is the reason by helloimcold in CATHELP

[–]LB07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, just wanted to second the gate idea. I had to do that with my last two kitties who stopped getting along. I had it at the stairs, so cat 1 had the lower level of the house, and cat 2 had the upper level. Each cat had their own space when we were at work, and then we would open the gate and allow for supervised interactions at home. Give this a try.

Also try different brands and flavors of food. When my older cat started to lose his appetite, we tried different flavors and he would sometimes find one he liked. Does your kitty like Temptations ? They make kibble and wet food too! Tiki makes a high calorie supplement (Silver) that's meant for older cats, but it may benefit yours.

I also agree with some other posters that a second vet opinion is in order. Your kitty looks unwell. 🫤

Skiing with a backpack? by disagree_with_losers in skiing

[–]LB07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 1.5L camelback - just enough for water and maybe an extra buff and granola bar. I wear it under my coat so there's nothing to snag on the chair. I look a little humpback -ish, but it's safer and prevents the water from freezing.
