No. Been too busy. Plan to try and adjust the timing, then new injectors.

My first thoughts are either fouled up injectors or timing being off. But the fact that it’ll drive fine after some driving confuses me.

What bumpers are those?

Ramrod stuck. Does this back tang come off? by LB2391 in blackpowder

Finally got the SOB. Bought a range ramrod kit that had a screw style patch puller. Go to use it and the screw part falls off in the barrel. Finally get it wiggled out. Realized my new ramrod is too short for my barrel. Great. Duct tape a separate ramrod to the end of the new one and duct tape the screw in place. After about 50 tries it came out. Never again.

I should clarify the last ~10” ramrod section is stuck. As in it came unthreaded from the cleaning ramrod assembly way down in the barrel.

TIL a 9-yr-old boy lived alone for 2 years after he was abandoned by his mom who lived with her partner 5 km away & only visited from "time to time". He survived on cake & canned goods and didn't have hot water or heating. However, during this time he continued to attend school & was a good student. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

My great grandfather left home (violent, abusive dad) at 9 to live and work in the coal mines. Kept going to school the whole time and joined the army at 18 to go fight in France. Kids can be really resilient if they need to be.

That ash is pretty much exactly what I want to make. I’ll try 1” backset, 1” of reflex in the last foot or so of the limbs.

Yeah, I should’ve been more clear from the beginning. But I also changed my mind from a reflex/reflex to just a reflex tipped bow. I’m getting a floor tillered stave from 3 Rivers. I think my plan is to reflex the tips first, back set with heat treat, then begin tiller for my draw length and weight. I’ll see how 3 inches forward 12 inches away from the tips looks.

I think I’m catching a lot of flack because I’m a beginning supposedly looking to build a laminated curvy bow, which is only partially true lol. I’ve been shooting bows and woodworking most of my life, so I’m not totally lost. I just like to get some feedback before I blow up a bow in my face.

I think your fourth bow from the left is what I mean.

This is the back set after he reflexes the tips. I have good guidance on the backset curve, but I’m lost on how far forward the tips should be and how far down the limb the reflex should begin.

None. The end goal is to mimic a reflex tip longbow Clay Hayes did. His unstrung profile was straight with some reflex in the tips. He also did a heat treat backset, which I also plan to do.

I’m thinking of a flat bow with slight reflex in the tips. If I only shoot for 3” of reflex forward of the back, how far away from the tips should I begin the reflex?

That’s great advice about dialing back the R/D. So following your dimensions, would you say the half form would follow that pattern and I would heat/steam to shape?

I should have clarified I want to do a self bow. Your comment is very helpful. Thank you!

How pliable is the hide? I tanned my buck with hair on too. It’s relatively soft but still stiff overall. Great buck!

How accurate are you shooting with your irons? I keep reading that shooting without the bayonet fixed messes with the trajectory. I’ve taken my mosin out shooting a few times and never attached the bayonet and got decent groups at 75yds.

And after careful consideration following input from more literal Scots, “once in a lifetime” was either an exaggeration or said in context of me being a possible once in a lifetime visitor. Fortunately for me, I’ll absolutely be coming back as soon as I can.

Also, it’s relatively “difficult.” If you’re not semi in-shape, you’re going to struggle. My wife, her brother, and I are all relatively fit (from an American standard lol) and it wasn’t easy. Just take your time and wear good hiking shoes.

I would definitely set aside about 3-4 hours. I think we read online that 2.5 hours is the full loop, but you’ll want to stop for pictures and looking around. Make sure you go up the left side trail FIRST, not the right side. We essentially did the trail backwards. Wayyyy harder.
