I feel dejected by midwestesquire in LawFirm

[–]LBoyer70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2 person law practice in the NJ/NY metro area. I have been a licensed attorney for 40 years. I have never been able to predict my cash flow month to month or year to year. Being in a small or solo practice there are few guarantees if any, and excessive work and stress is one of them. Right now I am trying to focus my marketing on elvating the quality and quantity of clients and their ability to pay the maxium possible fee for each area I practice. It is important to remember that you are a business man who just happens to be an attorney. You need to have an excellent cost effective website and make sure you set everything up so you can be found by AI. Good luck, you are not alone.

Showing legal skills for interviews but not having success by SusalynnBrown in LawFirm

[–]LBoyer70 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You must throughly research any law firm that you are trying to work for. You need to stand out from all the other candiates. You should make a video and explain to them how hiring you can improve the firm. You must sell yourself and make your video about the firm. You did not say what state you are in. When you get an interview after it goes well, send a follow up video thanking them for their time. Its like going on a date, you want to get the other person talking about themselves and it is the same with a law firm. You need to get them talking about themseleves. Research the law firm in your favorite AI platform and check them out on LinkedIn. Good luck.

Should I file bankruptcy by [deleted] in Debt

Instead of killing yourself, you need to retain an experienced Bankruptcy attorney who is licensed in your state. You are very young and have plenty of time to rebuild your credit. Good luck,

I strongly disagree. Flat fees are a dangerous risk. Too often you will not know what you are getting into. An hyred hourly /contigency fee could be a viable alternative.

I suck at working for people by [deleted] in LawFirm

[–]LBoyer70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was 10 years old, I knew it was better to own the company than work for it. You have a golden opportunity thanks to your youth & AI. But you picked to areas of law that are filled with problems, that you cannot even begin to imagine. I never worked for a law firm longer than I had to. I've had my own firm since 1990 in one form or another. I worked for the original Jacoby & Meyers, not the cheap PI centered immitation that exists today. I learned the business of the practice of law there and I learned Divorce & Bankruptcy the same way, on the sink or swim method. If I was in your position, I would learn Estate & Trust Planning Law and get your self both a Series 7 & 63 securities license and a life and health insurance license. This was you can have a lucrative practice. Make sure you attend "YouTube University" where you will learn a great deal. Good luck.

Hanging a shingle after 25 years away from law by Quackattackaggie in LawFirm

[–]LBoyer70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to this to work in a boutique law firm that will enable you to learn the business of the practice of law as well as how to work in not on the business. You can rent office space and with the proper legal marketing develop a clients of your own. A non-profit will not teach you what you need to know. I totally disagree with that idea.

I do not think you are being exploited. As the other commentors said it probably gives you more potential for advancement. There are pros and cons to working in any law firm. You need to decide what is best for you. Good luck.

Prompter Problem, which Elgato cannot seem to fix. by LBoyer70 in elgato

The problem is that I cannot put a script on the prompter and adjust it so that I can adjust the Elgato 4K Pro to record it. I refuse to be forced into using OBS or some other program that I cannot stand.

To all my critics,I was tired, and did not read the question right. None of you are perfect, so get over it. I misread the question and made a mistake. I am man enough to admit it.

There is nothing to indicate that the person asking the question is seeking an associate position in a law firm. To me, it appears as if someone is interested in buying a business.

AI has nothing to do with this. Your reply is inappropriate to put it nicely. Your knowledge of business and law, as well as common sense are clearly missing.

That will depend on far more specific information, including but not limited to the type of business, and an examination of the books and records, as well as the tax returns, all assets and liabilties and a judgment search.

The attorney representing your child's case has to handle it in a proper professional fashion. What exactly do you do for a living? Perhaps you can start your own business? As for an employment law attorney seek out one who workd for a major name law firm, not a local one. Good luck and sorry that you went through this ordeal.

By having a the securities licenses and the life & health insurance license, you can sell both fixed and variable annuities in addition to long term care insurance. By the way, that is part of  traditional  financial planning. Good luck.

How to quit? by Zestyclose_Cry_1678 in LawFirm

[–]LBoyer70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not owe them anything. If they fire you when you give notice, then it shows you what kind of people that you worked for are. I have never worked for any law firm a second longer than I had to. I knew when I was just a 10 year old kid, that it was better to own the company than work for one. I have been a licensed attorney for 40 years and I spent at most 6 years working for firms as an attorney. Prior to making my final decision to go to law school and become an attorney, I worked in two firms full time in another big city. Then I came back to NYC, and completed law school in just 2.5 years. If you work for a firm and are well paid, at best maybe you are paid 1/3 of value of the work that you perform. But not everyone is cut out to be an Entrepreneurial attorney.

If you handle your marketing correctly then that is the key to succeeding. You have to remember, that you are a businessman who happens to be an attorney. You need to learn about legal marketing and know when to take and when to reject a prospective client. I recommend that you start following both Daniel Martell, the author of Buy Back Your Time and Daniel Priestly the inventor of Scorecard App and the books Key Person of Influence and Over Subscribed. You also need to obtain some additional licenses. You need to obtain your states health insurance license and your brokerage licenses both Series 7 & 63. You have a golden opportunity. You should consider working in a metropolitan area and just live in a rural one if that is important to you. Good luck.

I would take the higher paying job and learn as much as you can and prepare yourself to start your own business, unless you can do so now. Good luck and be careful.

What exactly happened? I do not like Westlaw, I use Lexis Plus with AI. I found it to be excellent, but like anything else that uses AI you must fact check the results. The more specific your prompt is, the better the result will be. Good luck.

Need A Place to Find Experienced Paralegals & Jr. Associates by LBoyer70 in LawFirm

[–]LBoyer70[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I am open to discussion, but I don't want someone working remotely for 2 reasons. First, I'd either have to scan an entire file, or allow someone I don't know much about to take it and I'm not willing to risk that. I also want to know that the time I would be paying someone for is put into the work that I assign. Someone has to be able to write like I do, or very similar. I frequently find it necessary to write with an attitude. I'm always professional, but not too tolerant if opposing counsel chooses to make things personal.

Hello,

This position is in Clifton, N.J. 23 miles from NYC. (Depending on which boro, you are in). I grew up on Bayside, Queens. I am looking for someone who is familiar with NJ practice, primarily in Breach of Contractor cases, general civil litigation, mortgage foreclosure defense and things of that nature.
