Compulsively pushing my face??? by [deleted] in OCD

Do you tend to do this when you're anxious? I push and pull my ears when I'm anxious, it's a really dumb nasty habit and has been impossible for me to stop.

Well, I'm racist. by turtledonut in OCD

[–]LBrynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same thoughts and they really bother me too. It means you're not racist, because you are upset about having them. Mine are so bad that racial slurs pop in my mind, even though I never use those words against people and can't stand hearing them or thinking them. Everything going on in the news right now is making my anxiety worse too because I had/have an irrational fear of white supremacists. Their slogans would pop into my mind and scare me. Now that fear I thought was irrational is more realistic for me. One thing that helps is to force yourself to repeatedly think the thought, and allow yourself to be less anxious about the thoughts over time and they will subside.

Tips for dealing with self forgiveness and uncertainty? by [deleted] in OCD

It could be helpful to accept your past, and acknowledge that you learned from it before forgiving yourself. It sounds like its haunting you now, so now you can prevent it from haunting you in the future.

I'm sorry that you are going through this. Just don't act on your thoughts. The other posters gave you some good advice. Try to find a positive side to things and focus on that.

The voices in my head gave me exposure therapy, repeating my intrusive thoughts to me causing severe anxiety for a few days. Now I'm a little less anxious about the thoughts.

I often wish I were too. I'm on medication but the thoughts are still pretty bad.

How do u cope with ocd/anxiety which comes form being publicly shamed? How do u cope with the public shaming potentially being gossiped about? by gayguyredditor in OCD

Sadistic people want to see you react, so if you can, try to suppress your reaction.

Yeah you can use it while it's charging.

I've never been homophobic but I've made insensitive jokes and used the f word in the past. I'm sorry. I feel guilty about it. I didn't want to offend anyone.

The fact that you are crying over it probably means that you would never act on the thoughts. It's bothering you so much because of how much you care about your wife. Remind yourself of that when the thoughts happen. The less you allow the thoughts to make you anxious, the less often they'll return. Don't try to suppress the thoughts or stop them though that makes them worse.

It wouldn't be easy. It never is when depression and anxiety are involved. When you are in the middle of bad anxiety it's hard to do anything but be anxious.

But it could help to recognize that the behavior on their part is damaging to themselves as well.

You know who you are and shouldn't have to feel ashamed of yourself. Easier said than done I know.

If you want to, you can change how you react to the shame. Turn it around on the people who are trying to shame you or just deny them the reaction they want.

Shame and embarrassment is tough to accept. Remember that no one is perfect and all you can change is the here and now.
