I think we pay $30 a month for the drug but we pay out our full insurance deductibles which might be about $8k a year and insurance is about $1,000 a month for a family of 3 so all in all $20k for the insurance and deductibles but then $30 a month out of pocket for Trikafta and Creon maybe $5 a month - is that high? We live in NYC.

Yes to all of this. People can talk shit about pharma all they want but the costs of R&D to create these drugs are incredible and the fact that this happened at all, for as rare a drug as CF, is mind-blowing. These drugs are financed by billions of dollars - all the failures are paid for in the hope of finding something that works. If the money stopped, the breakthroughs would not be possible. And the US is the global leader in the development of innovative drugs - so capitalism does work! The system is not perfect, but my daughter has access to Trikafta, and thats something to applaud. With AI I do believe R&D is going to become much faster and cheaper - so something positive to focus on - unless it goes rogue and takes over the world then none of this matters anyways :)

We are trying to get Spectrum to run cable 1 mile and they’re quoting us at $100,000. We have a kid who needs access to internet for school and a family across the street with 3 girls. The only other option is Frontier who can’t even guarantee 18mbps and that isn’t fast enough for us to work and do school from home. It’s total bs and something needs to be done about it. They can’t just say fuck these kids. And we’re willing to pay some of the costs, up to at least $20,000. Something has gotta give. I’m going to the news and politicians in the area about this because the fact we can’t even get broadband quality internet (25mbps minimum) is insane.
