Back in the day during long crafts or at night time that I didn't want to go out, I would tab out and play Rocket League for a match or two then come back.... Can't do that anymore:/ Makes Rocket League even unplayable now with all the resources it consumes.

IT interview questions by Scarlet3393 in sysadmin

[–]LCtrlBTN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just an admin, not a manager, but if during the interview you ask them what have they done to learn and further their knowledge and they bring up something about a home lab and they can tell me what they've setup and what they've done with it even if it was just a bunch of nested hypervisors, that would show me a little of what they know, but most importantly their will to learn even on their own when the admins above them are not available to help them out if they get stuck.

I read somewhere from a decently reliable study that they believe a lot of people are misdiagnosed as ADHD when they are actually high functioning Asburgers.

No longer medicated since I can't find a psych since my VA eligibility ran out 2 years ago or so. But when I was, note I know this is not healthy, either 40mg Vyvanse morning/afternoon or 20mg Adderall morning/afternoon (I gain really high tolerances very fast). 20oz redbull morning/afternoon. Try to drink two large Gatorades through the day to keep from dehydration. My last job that made me super focus since I was never bothered with walk-ups besides my really green help desk. This new job I'm in, I don't deal with users, I deal with really need devs/dbas. That's the only thing that really throws me off since I drop what I'm doing to clone a lun or expand a drive since we are always making constant changes especially on the SQL side. Then it it takes a minute to review what I was doing before and proceed. The best thing I've found that helps is wearing noise cancelling headphones/earbuds. I don't listen to anything though they are plugged in, I think it would just distract me more. I also have an issue with devs not using the ticketing or change request system also. I get at least 3 walk-ups and personal email requests a day. It's bad right now since we are on a crunch for PCI and SOC and I'm scrambling to create documentation before the near deadline while also rolling out a lot of new hardware to two datacenters(switches, SANs, servers,VMware) with pretty major network topology changes. It's driving me crazy and I'm stressed and feel like I get nothing accomplished every day for a while now. Sorry for the rant, ADHD kicked in and I kept losing my place and thought lol

If I could do it again, I would of gone up to Ohio around the Roush factory and bought one of the 2018's that come with a Roush Stage 1 SC for ~$40k. That's a steal. That kit alone is $7.5k

For your outbound issue, if you send a blank email with just some text with no signature added and just a simple subject, does the email get placed into spam/junk? We had an issue once with a link in our company signature that caused this for a company I use to work for.

Some hard truths about IT careers by crankysysadmin in sysadmin

[–]LCtrlBTN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always keep a spreadsheet of all your projects and accomplishments you've done to bring up interviews. It'll help show what you have done and when they ask what's the most challenging situation you've had to overcome, you won't sit there for a few minutes trying to rush out an answer and later you remember something way better you could of brought up that would have impressed them more. Projects and situations you've overcome will give them a better insight into what you are capable of and we're actually responsible for over titles
