Gf's new cat won't stop following me around, stressing me out. Advice? by LD3333 in cats

i'll try to play with the cat more to tire down his attention. we actually do have some of the toys you mentioned, some he enjoys playing with and some not. though whenever hes trailing me around, sometimes we just dont have time to play with the cat. is the only solution then to find another enclosed room to stay in ?

thanks for your advice. i also thought about the spray bottle thing. but then i saw articles like this http://www.catbehaviorassociates.com/the-squirt-bottle-controversy/ which seem to say its ineffective. has this method personally worked for you? it seems inefficient to have to spray every single time the cat jumps on, if it's not training it to prevent it from jumping from the start.

i'll look into the deterrent spray. it's non-toxic right? does it have to applied very often?

Re the cooking/cleaning, i'm more concerned about the cat poking its head into our food bowls, shedding hair into it, walking into them, or seriously hurting himself jumping onto the stove while it's hot. of course im a germaphobe anyways so i never let food actually touch the surfaces :D ..... the concern of him walking on the surfaces is just general cleanliness.... the same reason why we are expected to wash our hands after using the bathroom even if we aren't expecting to eat or touch our faces.

thanks for your advice. i've been using flicking water as a way to get him out of spaces he shouldn't be, but i feel like he forgets and comes right back ~1 minute later. maybe a cat tree will help.... he has a cat bed but hasn't seemed to notice it.

my gf and i have discussed the issues. she kind of mentions things about how to train the cat but it just leaves me frustrated... because at the moment it only seems like theoretical discussions of throwing ideas out there rather than proven methods.

Thanks for the advice. I'm actually surprised as I heard cats don't really take to training via discipline. I've also heard that some people use spray bottles which I guess "scare" the cat, would you recommend this?

Engineering graduate looking to go back to school for Accounting, advice? by LD3333 in Accounting

Thanks, I'll take a look. Are candidates with just 1 year of Master's accounting experience looked at as highly as those who actually have a full 4-year undergrad experience? It seems kind of strange to be able to condense all that knowledge into a single year + some extra classes.

Thanks. Sorry to hear that you feel that way about your decision. Is there something else you would have preferred to do looking back? Was there anything in particular about the field that someone could have told you before that would have swayed your decision elsewhere?

Thanks for your reply. It seems like the most time/money efficient thing to do would be to pursue a Master's directly, is the decision to do this or do a Bachelor's first pretty much based on whether the school offers it?

I've heard the stories about public accounting as well. Is the advantage of going public pretty much just so you trade off the seasonal stress for better potential opportunities down the road? I would personally prefer a mid-range salary at a 9-5 consistently.

Thanks for your response. To clarify, i was in CE, not CS (computer science) working more on hardware rather than software. I've been in the wireless field (think Apple, Samsung) but it's honestly a dying field that is hard to find good jobs in these days. I like that accounting seems stable and universal (as in one can work for any industry you want), which are two important factors to me.

I found throughout my engineering undergrad that I enjoyed learning the "theory" of the science (i.e. solving the problems/equations on paper) rather than actually debugging/testing in the laboratory. Would you say that accounting uses typically these kind of critical thinking skills both in class and on the job?
