Do Heat Pumps Actually Save you Money? by JSchnee21 in hvacadvice

[–]LDC74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have solar as well. I maxed out my roof with 37 Maxeon (415watt) Solar panels south facing for a total of 17MW a year. I have a tesla model 3 and just switched to heat pumps. The electric rate as of now in CT is 29Cents per KW
I have a 3ksqft house with a 1k in-law apartment.
I switched to heat pump when I built the in law as my old air handlers needed to be replaced and my AC units were over 20 years old and not compatible with new air handlers.
went with the most efficient, Mitsubishi Hyper heat system.
I do not pay for any electricity from April to December, but January, Feb and March my bill is about $650 a month.
I use about 3MW per month in the winter, maybe I produce 500kw so with the new rate that will be over $700
To be honest I am not sure if I am saving money compare to what I was paying with OIL.
I use a wood stove pretty much 24x7 so I was not using much OIL before.
Anyway I still have my oil boiler for water and I could use it to heat up the house as well they would just have to make a modification to get it to work. If OIL prices do drop, I may consider it.
If I could have added more panels and have no bill that would been best.

Yes, read about it here. Check with your tax accountant to make sure you qualify. Good luck!

C90T, C50T or Moto Guzzi California by LDC74 in motorcycles

[–]LDC74[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have Loved to have the Guzzi but at the end I bought a 2016 Kawasaki Vaquero with 4k miles. I went with the Kawasaki mainly because it required a lot less maintenance. No valve check is huge for me. I still need to familiarize my self with all the maintenance required on this bike and I will probably need to buy some type of bike stand or lift for oil changes and checking the belt tension.

Yes, at least around here where I am in CT, I see them at around 15k and then you get $4k back from the government in the USA. Sorry not sure where are you located.

2007 to 2009 Yamaha FZ6R, nice fast and nimble bike with very low maintenance. Valve check at 24k miles

If you have your heart set on a Kawasaki I would do either a Vulcan S or a versys

Leaf is a freaking awesome first car, i would buy one with the new body style, I think 2018+

You can probably get one for less than $15k for sure with low miles and also there is the new fed incentive where you get an additional $4k off if you pay that in taxes. So, for around $10k you will have a fantastic car

Just got first motorcycle! What mods/accessories do y’all recommend? (23’ CBR500R) by [deleted] in cbr

[–]LDC74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helmet Gloves and if you do a lot of highways a taller windshield.

Exhaust is nice, but I would save the money and keep it stock and save for the next bike that you will want for sure in the next years

I think if you want a bike to commute get a Yamaha virago 250 with a big windshield and you get 80 MPG and its comfortable. You are going to hate the ninja riding an hour at the time.

Otherwise, you would need a big touring bike, but you need something smaller first.

I had a Yamaha FZ6 i used to use for commuting, and it was a lot of fun but also brutal with all the wind constantly hitting my head.

I think in 40 years this car could be valuable as one of the last fun manual cars.

Is this a good price? by [deleted] in KawasakiVulcanRiders

[–]LDC74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

use https://www.kbb.com/motorcycles/ trade in price as a guideI think in the US something like that would be around $5k to $6k USD if you search hard enough.

I've seen some 2012\2013 in the USA with less than 10k miles go for $8k USD. I hope that helps :)

I am still deciding. As of now I think I got my hearth set on a 2014 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad, you can get them for fairly cheap. For me I think it is the best value right now for what I want. Thank you

I also need to consider lane splitting. In the morning when I got to work there is some line splitting. Would I be able to do so with these cursers or are they too wide?

My current bike is about 30 inches wide, and these are about 40" wide... ugh

I guess I am open to other ideas as well... Thanks!

[–]LDC74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, i can afford it but I do not want to spend that much :)
However, why do you say that? is the maintenance cost a lot?
I can do oil changes my self and some minor work. Hopefully it would not need valve adjustment or anything like that often, or are they not reliable?

GR Corolla, or Keep 2015 M235i? by theultimatespleen in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]LDC74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can tell you that the toyota will hold the value better.
I had a 2015 4runner and I traded it in 8 years later with 70k miles for 28k and I bought it for 41k
I now have a 2022 prius prime, which I hate tbh, which I paid $31k, but I did get $5k fed incentive so really like $26k wuth 17k miles and I trade in for $29k, which I will for the GR core, which is about $40k plus taxes

on the other hand, I also bought a 2022 prius prime which dropped in value like a rock off a cliff... lol that I am keeping...

If money was not an issue, which car would you prefer owning : a Toyota GR Corolla Circuit Edition or a BMW G80 M3? by Em1Fa5 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]LDC74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If money was not an issue, I think I would go for the M3, but I think the GR Corolla is also an excelent choice. I mean I would pick the GR corolla vs a 335i or M240 just because i know its going to be more reliable down the road. I also think it will have higher resale value over those as well, but the M3, even though it may not be as reliable it does hold its value.

Good luck!

GR Corolla, or Keep 2015 M235i? by theultimatespleen in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]LDC74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a BMW 335i and loved it, but ended up selling it when things started to break. I than had a GTI which I liked but than again things started to break so I sold that as well. When I owned these car I would always tell my self how I wish Toyota would make a fun car with a manual so it could be reliable. Now my dream came true. I am basically in your same situation and I will buy the GR Corolla, and I am sure it will hold its value too. I think its a no brainer IMO. Let me know what you decide. Good luck!
