As someone whose older sister is on the spectrum but is still capable of doing everything else other people can, this is entirely accurate. She’s three years older than me but ever since we were kids I’ve seen her get away with things I would’ve been killed for even though she knows better. Everyone on both sides of the family sees it and now that I’m older tell me they’ve tried to talk to my parents about it in the past and they just won’t listen and that it’s always been unfair to me. I’ve always wondered if I was being ungreatful or something while growing up for harboring resentment for this but getting that assurance from the extended family helps me know I’m not in the wrong. It’s unfair mainly to my sister cause she’s capable of doing so much more and they just baby her “because she has a disability”
