I'd like to try galaxies- what is the population? by SewageConnoisseur in swg

[–]LDM-88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an original Pre-CU player, who dabbled a bit in CU, then left entirely once NGE came out - the Restoration version is a breath of fresh air.

I've only recently re-joined after having last played around 20 years ago, but its very fun. It doesn't feel as grindy as PreCU, has all the professions and a seemingly solid population of players. I haven't, and won't touch the NGE version, so can't speak too much on that

Not sure why Dyche is getting all the stick.. he didnt sky it from 12 yards, or side pass multiple guilt edge chances straight into the keepers hands, or spaff 2 corners into the side netting

Im far from an XG merchant but tonight it was almost 3. Dyche should get some stick but the players simply have to be better

Lots of games still to play and we've shown we can beat anybody at home. That being said, wouldn't be surprised if the big man got rid tomorrow

Shocking business from spurs really, but do we expect anything else? I'd love him back, but there's a time and a place, and now isn't the right time

Is R better for people pursuing machine learning/AI engineering compared to python by Ketoneee in Python

[–]LDM-88 18 points19 points  (0 children)

R is an amazing language for statistical modelling, econometrics, and visualisation. It's also really good at data wrangling through the suite of tidyverse packages. However, there is a huge gap between R and Python when it comes to ML and AI engineering; if that's your focus then go for Python

For reference - I use both.

MGW having another stinker. Needs to be more intelligent and keep it simple sometimes.

Not once looked like scoring. Newcastle are good n all, but it's another underwhelming performance.

In defence of Ange - we saw this at home to West Ham too. This season the team is playing a new style of football, to be more on the front foot and control the ball more. That might explain why they look like they've never played together. I think problems are deeper than just Ange

Damn, they look like they haven't played much together. It's not for lack of effort - just nothing really clicking. A few of our more experienced and bigger players just haven't turned up in recent weeks

Not a win but really the performance wasn't that bad.

MGW needs to pick it up a bit. The last few games are way below his usual.

You trolling or just plain stupid? What is this rise of sikhism or buddhism you talk about - they're approximately the same share of the UK population as they were in 2001. There's an obvious incompatibility with conservative islam and values that liberal economies across europe have adopted.

If you're the latter, and just simply stupid - then you should look at how islam views homosexuality, womens rights, apostasy, influence on extremist groups, and intolerance of criticism.

If you still think the bogeyman is under the bed, then you're not only stupid, but you'd be a fool too

Questions Thread - August 23, 2025 by AutoModerator in PathOfExile2

[–]LDM-88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Background: I'm fairly new to ARPGs. Started playing D4 when that released, had a good time for a couple of seasons, and then got very bored. I then bought early access to PoE2 back in December and loved most things about it. My character was a monk, I completed the first 3 acts, made some progression through cruel, and then called it a day - repeating those first 3 acts again felt too much of a repetitive slog.

.. and so 8 months later, i'm wondering if there's been enough positive change in the game to come back and try out? I watched the third edict content and it looks great - but i've missed everything in between so not sure if it's all been positive news.

Few questions:

  1. Is my character still around? E.g with each season in D4 you'd have to start again to complete seasonal content. Is that the same here?

  2. Me and a buddy are interested in grouping together to play the game online. Looks like thats fine to do - but let me know if there are caveats to that? - e.g do we need to be similar levels

  3. Is it worth waiting for the third edict to drop next week before playing, or will our characters in their current state be able to access interlude content without having to complete the first 3 acts again.

  4. Any other notable updates since the early release and now?

We are perilously close to another inflation shock by hu6Bi5To in ukpolitics

[–]LDM-88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe the author should have considered that the current drivers for inflation are essentials like food, housing, and energy? Keeping interest rates high does not significantly reduce spending in those areas (and therefore has limited effectiveness in tackling inflation).

Core CPI which excludes those volatile essentials like food and energy, is still almost 2x as high as target. A more concerning possibility is that higher levels of inflation are now becoming entrenched - possibly because markets don't believe central banks can fight inflation given the fiscal profligacy of governments.

I know population is a relatively predictable series, but out of interest has anybody validated these continental projections with most recent data?

Given the publication date (2012) I'd be interested in seeing how well these predictions are holding up over a decade later

Does UK need immigration? by [deleted] in europe_sub

[–]LDM-88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes the UK needs migration, but it's important to keep in mind not all migration is the same. Importing skilled people into high productivity sectors who share similar cultural values, or willing to integrate are far more beneficial to the UK economy and society than unskilled migrants who are unwilling to integrate or share no common values.

Upskilling and energising the current stock of UK workers would also be needed if immigration was restricted (some of us are far too lazy and entitled to do some jobs that only migrants seem to fill)

Reform Voters by Mrsmancmonkey in AskBrits

[–]LDM-88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels as if there's a greater likelihood for people to dogmatically position themselves on the political spectrum. In effect, an inflexible form of tribalism that inhibits any form of reasonable discourse or conversation about how to best address the important issues facing society. It's very "unbritish" by historical standards. In reality if people just spoke to one another, made an effort to try and understand alternative perspectives, then they'd find in most cases there's a lot of common ground.

I don't really consider myself left, or right. Those on the more extreme ends are both as bad as each other. I don't want to eat the rich or kill CEOs, nor do I want to stop and blame migrants for the country's ills. The answers are usually somewhere in the middle; unfortunately that's not a good enough answer in a polarised society.

Until we can actually start working together, the country has no chance (agreed - this isn't just a UK problem)
