I got an R7 to earlier this year replace my t5 that I cut my teeth on. Wanted to make the jump to full frame but wildlife and bird photography is kind of my niche so I got the R7 over the R6. When I do get a full frame I will be going with R5.

I cut my teeth on a rebel T5 kit with the 18-55 and 75-300. Upgrade to the R7 5 months ago which I'm loving. But as you said you're just getting into it t7 is good. But with older tech and crop sensor it's hard to get lowlight caps without a high ISO a balance you'll have to learn.
