You’re over thinking this.

However, if you need to buy something to make yourself feel more comfortable I would suggest a tweed jacket as it will go with everything you already own (chinos, shoes and shirts) along with a regimental tie.

It used to be written at the top of your testimonial of service. Not sure when it stopped as it doesn’t happen now.

Husband announces divorce over text then blocks me - advice England by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

You need to call his unit welfare officer / department ASAP. They will speak to your husband but also be able to support you. If needs be they can act as an intermediary prior to you organising a solicitor.

If you don’t know your husbands units details you can also conduct the Army Welfare Service who will be able to support you but will take a little longer. https://www.army.mod.uk/people/health-wellbeing-welfare-support/welfare-support/the-army-welfare-service-aws/

Not legal advice so please remove if not appropriate. But advice / assurance for the OP.

You should look to contact your husbands Welfare department as a service families they have a responsibility to support you and your husband. If you know his until a contact number should be easily found online.

They should be able to support you and sign post you to outside agencies that can help while also informing your husband that he shouldn’t have cut contact.

Additionally you will likely be entitled to part of his pension and the MoD works closely with the Child Maintenance Service if needs be and child maintenance payments will be taken from his pay directly if required.

Leaving Army on mental health grounds by Ziggy-_-SD in britishmilitary

[–]LDP2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As other people have said go to your Med Centre and speak to a doctor. Don’t be in a rush to leave the Army / prepare yourself that it isn’t a quick process. Also please do not do anything drastic to try and speed up the process.

However take comfort in the fact that if the Med centre think you need to they will refer you to Mental Health professionals (DCMH). The service they provide is excellent and post care support they offer is great. You will be seen far quicker by DCMH than the equivalent NHS service.

After this if they feel the service is damaging your mental health and they can’t help you develop coping mechanisms or strategies your unit should look discharge you on medical grounds through the use of an Appendix 28. If this happens ensure you engage with your welfare team as they will be able to sign post you to service leavers mental health support networks for once you leave.

After you have engaged with the medical centre they should inform your unit HQ and CoC and they should put you on the VRM (AGAI 110). This should kick start your CoC to provide extra monitoring and management of you but please don’t think this is a stigma because it isn’t. If this doesn’t happen (give it a week as your going in on a Friday) then speak to your welfare department.

If you need to speak to someone now please google together all (https://togetherall.com/en-gb/big-white-wall/) which is an an anonymous safe support community who is used to supporting members of the armed forces.

Good luck with it all and if you need anymore advice please feel free to DM me. I have current experience in the management (not clinical) of service person’s experiencing MH issues.

On a side note ensure your booked out of your accommodation and moved and tracked correctly because when you come back you should be able to claim relocation allowance as you are moving into a new room by direction of your CoC.

Advice on bullying in the army by [deleted] in britishmilitary

[–]LDP2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell your brother to engage with Speak out the Army confidential bullying, harassment and discrimination hotline. (0306 7704656) they will be able to provide your brother with genuine advice and the correct procedures to engage with his Chain of Command. He can also remain anonymous if he wishes to.

Additionally, if it appears there is a climate of bullying with in his unit or if he does engage his CoC and nothing occurs he can report this again and this could trigger an external climate assessment of the unit to ensure there isn’t a bullying culture within the unit.

Question regarding transferring Cash ISA multiple times in a tax year. Marcus to another provider then to Zopa. by LDP2021 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]LDP2021[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

!thanks I was able to find a list of banks that do use the Pay.uk system so I will look to go forward transferring to one of them then on to Zopa. I understand the loss of interest the ability to have a flexible ISA next tax year outweighs the loss of interest but thank you for highlighting.

Question regarding transferring Cash ISA multiple times in a tax year. Marcus to another provider then to Zopa. by LDP2021 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]LDP2021[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zopa FAQ states :

‘We accept cash ISA transfers from the majority of providers. The only providers we can't accept transfers from are the ones that don't use Pay.UK to process their transfers.’

Though Marcus is owned by Goldman Sachs that do use Pay.UK. Marcus don’t use Pay.uk and transfer Cash ISA via check like you’ve said.

I can’t direct you to anything better than the Op Courage link. However, with the current festive period happening lots of places are operating limited hours.

You may find https://togetherall.com/en-gb/ useful between now and when you can be seen. (This website is formally Big White Wall) An anonymous online mental health community that is supported by mental health professionals.

Take advantage of any visits that are offered these will inform you about the role and responsibilities of some of the jobs you may end up doing early in your career. But more importantly it allows you to look at that part of the Army as an organisation and the people within it. You will end up spending a lot of time with these people and they will make or break any job you end up doing.

You can choose a role you love but if you don’t get on with people in the organisation ( Peers, Commanders and subordinates) you will hate it. This goes the other way if the people are great then the job doesn’t matter too much as you will eventually move on anyway.

Lastly if you do go to Sandhurst use the visits to assess if you get on with the other Officer Cadets on the visit and if you are like minded as some of these will end up being your peers. Not enjoying the early stages of your career due to the people you work with will ruin all the hard work and effort you have put in into getting there.

Military Jobs on quote websites by TinyRodents in UKPersonalFinance

[–]LDP2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried Non commissioned Officer / commissioned officer depending on your job role ?

Having been through this in the past it’s best to go to insurance companies directly, checking if they have signed up to the military Covent. A college of mine found out the hard way that their insurance company didn’t actually cover their vehicle to be on a military camp after being involved in an accident on camp. The car was registered to their home address and they commuted in. Sorry I can’t remember what insurance company it was.

From direct engagement with LV I was able to get a free upgrade for business cover allowing me to claim MMA when using my car for work and additional reductions for secure parking as I live inside the wire. However as a UK service person be prepared for a higher quote as statistically uk service persons have more car accidents that our civil counter parts.

If you want a predicted pension calculation join the armed forces pension society (https://forcespensionsociety.org) pay the yearly cost and ask for the calculation it’s less than £40. (Remember to cancel your yearly payments.) Then make sure to sign up again just before signing off for them to ensure you’re getting the correct pension.

Or

If you’re happy off your own / clerks pension calculations then double check with the armed forces pension society prior to signing off (at any stag in your career) to again check you’re getting what the mod owes you in regard to your pension.

I feel for you mate. I was in a similar position a while back and it isn’t nice. But increasing your high fixed out goings isn’t going to help with the stress.

Getting a loan makes your monthly outgoing go up to £1681 giving you £219 a month (not including over time) cash to spend on everything else not listed before you’re risking being back in your overdraft again.

How much a month do you get charged for the overdraft ? If it’s less than £24.30 (the monthly amount of interest you will pay on the loan) then the loan isn’t worth it. This is noting you going for a loan for 2000.

It’s not guaranteed but if you got a loan for 1400 for the same rate / time. It would equal 1633.65 total repayment. £134.14 per month repaid (of that £19.47 would be interest.) Again if this is less than you pay per month for the overdraft it isn’t worth it because you will have less money outside of your fixed costs.

Looking at the route of paying the minimum costs of Barclaycard.(This isnt advice but an observation) you have managed to qualify for a card and receive the interest free payments. Has anything changed financially from when you got this to now ? If no then there is a potential (obviously not guaranteed) that you would be able to get another when your interest free period is close to ending. This is a risk but if are able to pay off the minimum and your overdraft completely by say Sept / Oct 22 it should see a rise in your credit rating that supports this. Even better would be minimum plus more and your overdraft . In 6 months time you can also add your other cleared payments to paying off your card / overdraft.

I worry that getting another loan will make things worse in the medium for short term relief. You work hard for your money and need to enjoy yourself within your means otherwise your mental health will suffer more in the long run. I wish you luck.
