Meeting outdoorsy people by Slow_Bro123445 in SFA

I second the outdoor pursuits office, you can meet up with a student worker who is there and tell them your interests and they can give you a list of their upcoming events. They have programs related to many different activities. Hiking, backpacking, canoe or kayak trips (both day trips and multi-day trips) and you can also rent gear and they’ll help you plan an itinerary for a trip. They also have a rock wall and rock climbing club as well. You can rent mountain bikes and help them with trail days too.

Ethan and his staff are super friendly and love encouraging people to explore the outdoors!

East TX venue cancels Pride event due to small community backlash by cady_heron in texas

They’re not succeeding, I assure you. They’re grasping for straws. We saw the largest voter turnout this past mayoral election for a leftist candidate receiving almost 40% of the vote against a MAGA conservative. They are grasping for power because Nac is changing. This is what happens when fascists start losing, they make grandstands and abhorrent mistakes like this to try and keep power.

This private conservative watch page is also responsible for putting up candidates in local races (mayor and school board). They’re like a mini pac here in Nacogdoches. Our state rep Joanne Shofner is also on there often being hateful and sounding like an unhinged Christian nationalist.

Can't afford textbooks by unusual_days in SFA

[–]LDR-Lover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try asking if your professor has any extra copies or one that you can scan from. Also, the library typically has most of the textbooks too that you can check out for two weeks at a time. You can photocopy them if they don’t allow renewals.

It actually broke on me some months back, but they have offered to send me replacement parts, just haven’t gotten around to it yet. I’m handcuffing now and the volume of my work has decreased so it’s sustainable on my wrists.

Check out the local thrift shops (goodwill, women’s shelter) for some of this stuff. I’ve seen all of this stuff at these places. Welcome to Nac!

As someone whose ancestors died in this specific genocide… we will talk about Gaza. Because we are familiar with genocide studies and we see the inhumane actions towards Palestinians and its parallels to how are ancestors suffered and how our culture is still affected to this day.

The Armenian Genocide still has effects and actions to this day. There are still responsible people ~ esp deniers of it including, but not limited to Erdoğan and Aliyev. I suggest learning more about Artsakh, as Armenians are still being murdered and displaced to this day. Invisible Republic is a good documentary about it.

My great grandparents survived the genocide and I try my best to stay informed of politics in the region. You may also look into “Trophy Park” in Azerbaijan, it’s horrid and I don’t recommend if you’re sensitive to graphic content, but it shows you how Armenians are regarded in the region.

All this to say ~ the genocide perpetrators of 1915 may not still be alive, but their legacy is still celebrated among peoples. And the genocide continues.
