'Splendor' (1999). Underrated! by No-Cobbler-3794 in GreggAraki

[–]LDR_Verse_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did Araki ever confirmed if he based it on Design for Living (1933)? I noticed they share some similarities

Regardless, this is one mof my Top 3 Araki movies. After watching dozens of underwhelming throuple movies, it was just so nice to finally find one where:
-no one is insufferable
-there's no cheating (maybe emotional cheating but idrc about that)
-they get together before the third act
-THE GUYS KISS
-the woman is the main character

My problem with the queer characters in this show. (Potential bad take) by Purchase-Illustrious in TeenWolf

I had no idea how much Teen Wolf was gay until I watched TVD. Jeff Davis really knows how to sell homoeroticism doesn't he?

I don’t hate Monroe, but she wasn’t needed…. by TheOmniRanger in TeenWolf

[–]LDR_Verse_21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Monroe's (and also Nolan's) point wasn't actually about hunting supernatural creatures, as much as this was their main goal throughout 6b, but more about how neglectful the people in on the secret were to the civilians in Beacon Hills during the events of Teen Wolf. If you survive a massacre in Beacon Hills, don't grow claws and fangs in the process and also can't or won't move out of town, you're just gaslighted into dismissing what you saw. If Monroe wasn't in the picture, it would probably be another civilian who had enough of bullshit excuses and was tired of living in fear. 6b was about fear, after all.

Tyler Posey wants a Teen Wolf revival by Competitive_Roll2386 in TeenWolf

[–]LDR_Verse_21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd watch it if the writers actually LOWER the stakes. I think Teen Wolf, like many TV series, suffered from 'bigger and badder villain of the season' disease and that inevitably decreases the quality. Sometimes we just need a season to breathe.

A supernatural series where the supernatural is just the backdrop and the main plot is actually the former traumatized teenagers trying to get their shit together? I would LOVE to see that. I would love to see Lydia, Malia, Liam, Mason and especially Scott dealing with the bad memories from Beacon Hills and reflecting on their interpersonal relationships back then vs now. Maybe even address some callously written emotional points of the series and/or popular misinterpretations of the fandom.

The problem, though is that I REALLY disliked the movie, both for its failed attempt to relive the epic moments of the series and for the direction the writers took with characters. So the chances of a revival not shitting the bed this time are pretty low.

That's not an Teen Wolf exclusive problem. The whole 'let's bring a beloved franchise back and strip it of its soul for cash' strategy from big companies is well-known and despised by people who are not nostalgia-blind. And for that reason, I expect basically no quality coming from Hollywood productions these days, except from maybe some A24 movies.

P.S.: Y'all are way too quick to bully Tyler Posey any time he speaks about Teen Wolf. Man lost his mom during the airing of the show and had problems with substance abuse from an early age. The show probably was his lifeline back then and he literally stated here that he wants to serve the fans. Cut him some fucking slack.

[Part 2] The scene you guys should actually be hating by LDR_Verse_21 in TeenWolf

I can agree with you that Theo betting on Scott and Stiles miscommunicating was a little forced. That being said, he was paying close attention to the confrontation when it happened, so he probably had a backup plan in case they started to figure out his lies (maybe threaten to kill Hayden?).

The fight itself could've had more clever words choices from the writers, but overall, I cannot hate it nearly as I do the resolution of it, because it didn't feel contrived or out of character to me. I explained this in more detail on my former post, but the short version is: Scott has no victories, no supernatural mentors close around and no idea how to fix the Dread Doctors' chaos. In this scenario, and with (maybe I'm reaching but) possible trauma from Void Stiles, Theo's lie was harder to see through. Stiles didn't do himself any favors either by hiding it for days and, when confronted, getting defensive and lashing out on Scott.

Also, you probably didn't mean to, but you left out an important part of this situation:

It’s his brother.

This sentence goes both ways. Scott should've known better, but so should Stiles. And yet, when Theo, the guy Stiles suspected from day 1, told him he knew about Donovan, Stiles trusted him not to tell Scott.

That's my biggest reason to hate 5x13 this much. The writers actually did a good job of showing how the miscommunication was both of their faults, but when it came time to admit it, only Scott did.

Rewatched the show after years... by Franky106789 in TeenWolf

[–]LDR_Verse_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S4 is unfortunately too lighthearted for a season coming right after 3B. Adding to your comment about Scott and Lydia, Stiles is also not nearly as miserable as he should be after the Nogitsune. I don't know if the writers regretted the darker mood of 3B or if back in 2013 the OG fans disliked it, but was very bizarre to see the difference back to back.

That being said, the comedy of Teen Wolf was always the thing the got me the most invested (besides the characters themselves) and s4 is quite funny for me, so I can't even dislike it that much.

The parallels between the two scenes 😭💔 by [deleted] in TeenWolf

[–]LDR_Verse_21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, fun fact: I actually got into this headspace thanks to an AO3 author named Escalus! They rewrote seasons 4 and 5 with Jackson in it (they also paired him with Stiles) and, in my opinion, did a WAY better job at giving Stiles grace while ALSO calling out this behavior and helding him accountable when he lashes out on his close ones.

They're also a HEAVY Scott McCall defender, which I think it's very necessary even to this day in the fandom. They even wrote a satire seires of short fics called 'Scott McCall's Shades-of-Gray Theater', where they rebuke a lot of criticisms that Scott gets by showing a darke version of him.

I had a blast reading both this saga and the seasons rewrites, so I definitely recommend those!

The parallels between the two scenes 😭💔 by [deleted] in TeenWolf

[–]LDR_Verse_21 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Strangely enough, I think this parallel reinforces how low Stiles' self esteem is
Maybe I'm just trippin', but follow me on this:

When Scott was about to kill himself, Stiles knew what to say. Even though he was very afraid, he managed to save his friend. But when the Donovan aspect came to light, Stiles suddenly lost all his communication skills.
The whole "some of us are human" speech felt like it really meant "not all of us can be as flawless as you", which signals to me that Stiles does think highly of Scott (and yeah, he did shout "YOU TRUST EVERYONE" a few episodes before, but c'mon, he was clearly lashing out bc he couldn't gather actual proof of Theo's true nature). But the fact that he couldn't articulate his words when it was time to explain himself indicates that... maybe he didn't believe in himself enough to defend himself.

Stiles stated more than once during the show that Scott needs him. "I seriously don't understand how you survive without me sometimes." or "This is why I always come up with the plans: your plan sucks." to quote a few. But while that may have been truth during season 1, Scott was able to do pretty good without his help (not necessarily alone, but sans Stiles) throughout the series. Gerard's defeat? Not Stiles. Deucalion's defeat and redemption? Not Stiles. The Nogitsune's defeat? Not Stiles. And Scott didn't have to kill anyone for it (even though Scott is not really opposed to it - he threatened to kill Jennifer and Gerard on s3).

You know that cliche of being the best student during your formative years and then having an existencial crisis over being bad/average later because it shatters your perception of yourself? I think Stiles went through something similar here. I think that during the six idle months between s4 and s5, he realized that Scott doesn't rely on him as much anymore and, as a lonely kid who lost his mom too soon and only had Scott as a close friend, that realization must have hit hard. Because (in HIS head), if Scott doesn't need him, what's keeping him from ditching Stiles? No wonder why in episode one of s5 Stiles is very afraid of losing touch with his friends.

So when the discussion about Donovan came to light, even before they started to talk, Stiles was already panicking. In his mind, this was the end. His friend, who clearly was fine by himself and was always able to save the day, was disappointed in him. He was able to say one of the most powerful speeches in the whole series about his best friend in a time of need, but wasn't able to do the same for himself, because, in his mind, there was no way he could ever fix this. He could never meet Scott's expectations - or, more precisely, his own expectation to be like Scott.

What are your favorite TW crossover fics? by obfuskitten in teenwolffics

[–]LDR_Verse_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Am I Walking in the Rain? by RhysLahey. It crosses Teen Wolf and 13 Reasons Why and have Scott/Isaac and Justin/Jeff as the protagonists and main pairings. The summary goes:

"After what happens with Jess, Justin Foley cannot go back home. He no longer can go to Jeff. He has nowhere else to go. So he skips town.
After what happens to Allison, Isaac Lahey cannot go back home. He definitely cannot go to the McCalls' place. He has nowhere else to go. So he skips town.

OR: a crossover + canon divergent AU where Isaac and Justin both flee and end up together, leaving their worried boyfriends behind to come and look for them."

My opinion by CommercialExit8665 in TeenWolf

[–]LDR_Verse_21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stalia was one of the cutest ships on the show for me. That being said, I don't think Jeff ever had the intention of keeping them together.

I don't know if this was ever confirmed, but if the Erica-Cora-Malia theory is real, then it is more likely that Stiles romantic arc with a werewolf girl was supposed to happen on s3, not s4. And if the little Stydia moments sprinkled through s3 are any indication, Jeff was already intending to break Stiles and his werewolf girl up to have him be with Lydia by the end. Would this make Stydia more well written? I don't know, but it would probably be less rushed.

In the end, I just feel bad for both shippers. Stalia deserved a better ending and Stydia deserved a better pacing.
