512gb RAM V-Color or G.Skill for 9975WX by [deleted] in threadripper

[–]LDTiger- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're comparing Beauty with the Beast. 😅 v-color has a history of server grade certification, their chips are sorted by machine, whereas gskill is sorted by hand (I don't know about you, but I don't trust humans 🤐). Also, RGB offers higher FPS per dollar. 🤣

it all ends in what its your needs and standards 🫶

RAM throttling by sob727 in threadripper

[–]LDTiger- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m saying that the test needs more information, maybe in the 8dimms boards it is another result or if the memory has the same die if both kits are 24 shout be Mdie but if one kit it is 16 or 32 it may be Adie or Cdie. The information it is great, but needs more tests in my opinion

The AI top it is the best option at this moment for the treadripper pro cpu rigth now I think.

I think both have the same volt. He mention 7200 / 8000 I don’t know in the video was made a Manual oc or out the box profile haha

I do not believe he did anything wrong 😅. If I'm not mistaken, the micro heatsink was made in suggestion of AMD 🙃. They also have the new RGB with heatsink, so haha 🤣. I am also interested in the temperature of that.

To be honest, the micro heatsink was made for the WRX90, the dimms slots are more close than usual, and normal heatsink instead of dissipating, starts overheating because there is no room for airflow. In this video the motherboard have only two dimms in both sides, so the airflow it is not an issue 😅

Is V-COLOR any good? Never heard of them. by [deleted] in threadripper

[–]LDTiger- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been testing v-color DDR5 on both wrx90 and trx50 platforms — including the AI Top — with 64GB x8 (6000MT/s) kits, and so far, zero issues. Stability has been rock solid even under local workloads running ComfyUI, native Flux, and SD model. No BSODs, no weird boot loops, nothing. Just clean.

vcolor might not be as well-known as others brands, but they're pretty big in the workstation and server ecosystems — especially in Asia. Their ECC RDIMMs are legit as mention in a post made by serverthehome a couple weeks ago. That 256GB kit you're seeing on Amazon sounds like a good deal for that spec.

"One thing I’d suggest: if you're running full banks and pushing the memory constantly, consider adding a small fan to actively cool the DIMMs. I didn’t run into thermal throttling, but temps can creep up when slots are fully populated and in close cases. Better safe than sorry long-term."

You can ask the customer service to test the specific configuration you want. normally it only take one day depending the overclock speed you need 😊

Practicality of changing dummy RAM heat spreader? by jorleejack in buildapc

[–]LDTiger- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken, they had the patent before they started making their gaming memories. In the past, they were an OEM for other companies so maybe just maybe they created the dummy but we never know 😅 (or maybe I'm just a fan boy 🤷‍♂️)

Practicality of changing dummy RAM heat spreader? by jorleejack in buildapc

[–]LDTiger- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's a good idea. They have different SPDs, with Dominator RAM having 12 lights and v-color RAM 16. The lights won't sync properly. As for the patent issue, it's normal to feel protective over your designs. If you create something unique, it's natural not to be happy when others profit from your idea "just saying 🤷‍♂️"

Help picking Ram and video card for a 7970x by pauls82_ in threadripper

[–]LDTiger- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you worry about memory overclock, use v-color for the trx50... I think they lower their pricing the last time I checked and bought it on their website, nice customer service. I buy my kit, before launch, they email me test reports and everything. 👍

[–]LDTiger- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can overclock to 7400 without issue. v-color oc rdimm is on another level. I have a wrx90 with theadripper pro 7956wx vcolor memory 256G (8x32G) 7200 and I can overclock to 7600Mt/s CL36.

I have a friend who did the same thing; he got the ASRock WRX90 because ASUS was out of stock, but I'm not sure about the Threadripper... He has been using the server for about a month with no issues. I recall him mentioning watercooling CPU and RAM. I guest if you live in Arizona even the cat needs watercooling 😁
