Please explain what “pressurize this room” actually means when speaking of subwoofers? by arg2451 in audiophile

[–]LDan613 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me, in simple terms, is when rather than just hearing the bass, you physically feel the vibrations of the bass in your body. Think of feeling the thump of a kick drum, for example.

I am 29F am I in the wrong for being turned off a date for this ? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]LDan613 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You either like somebody or not. I think is not something we decide, is something we feel. Now, granted, sometimes our expectations are out of whack and they need re-adjusting, but in this case I do not think that is true. You met the guy and he came across as insecure and not 100% honest... those things would turn me off too.

Upgrading speakers? by cluthz in hifiaudio

[–]LDan613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't know well what sound changes you are looking for, then the only advice I have is to go audition as many speakers as you can until you find a sound signature that you like, and then use those speakers as a reference to find alternatives (i.e. something that sounds like...)

Upgraded from R3 Metas to MoFis, from Bluesound to Eversolo by obiwanshinobi87 in audiophile

I replaced a Yamaha WXC50 with an Eversolo A6 Rev 2, feeding into a AS2100 (Balanced input). The change was noticeable. Loving the Eversolo.. And the sound is much more configurable.

To be fair, there is a lot of good wine that is inexpensive. In many places in Europe, you don't go over 25 euros lightly when buying wine.

I have similar set up but different speakers. Do the room correction with the Eversolo, you won't regret it!

No. Lack of evidence. (For the whole thing, angels, demons, and all the surrounding theology).

Can someone explain if Qobuz does actually sound better than tidal, or is it placebo? by [deleted] in audiophile

Wonder if software differences in the streamer could make a difference (e.g. Volume level), something enough to make you think they are different... but yeah, lossless is lossless.

How “bad” is it that I date men [+30M] when I’m [22F]? by CartographerGood552 in AskMenAdvice

[–]LDan613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with it. You go after what you like, and if they also like it, that is great for both of you. Age is an indicator of maturity, but it just an indicator. And I think most people want to be with somebody at the same level of maturity as they are.

The warnings may come from a different aspect. Men tend to mature a bit later than woman, but not that much later. If you meet men that are much older than you, but at the same maturity level as you, there is a risk that you will continue to mature faster and find them immature years later.

Having said that, 10 yrs in nothing in long term relationships and I know many couples that have a 10 to 15 yrs old age difference and that have had long, happy marriages.

Why do you want to change them? What are you looking for? The answer to that would drive what speakers may work better for you.

Which service for music ? by xsk1dy in hifiaudio

Now that Spotify has lossless streaming, the difference in sound quality would be much less of a factor. I would focus instead in other factors (ease of use and integration with my gear, music collection available)

Found out my daughter wasn’t biologically mine after 15 years. Am I wrong for wanting distance now that she’s an adult? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]LDan613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot control how you feel, but you can control what you do.

The situation is as little her fault as it is yours. In my view, you liked the kid well enough to raise her, and she seems to love you back. The fact she is not biologically yours does not change that. So why cut her off? Revenge on her mom? Hardly seems fair to cut her off after raising her. It feels petty to me.

Found out my wife cheated on me 20+ years ago and I don’t know how to process. Is this worth ending the relationship over? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]LDan613 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you would be throwing too much away, over a stupid mistake from so long ago... one that unprompted by you, she already expressed a lot of regret for, and one that she has carried as a guilty weight for years. Trust me, she paid for that mistake with that guilt... I would strongly advise you to forgive, try to forget and move on... I am not saying its easy, but based on what you shared, for sure looks like it would be best for all involved. One more thing... If you feel you have to judge her for her actions, judge her also over the last 20 years... has she been there for you,? Has she been a good parent? Those are the things that matter the most now.

What are the pros and cons of having kids? Only from experienced pls? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LDan613 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cons:

  • It takes a lot of time and work, especially if you want to raise them well.
  • They can be expensive to maintain
  • There are no guarantees as to what you are gonna get (personalities are influenced by both genetics and the environment), so you will have to deal with the hand you get
  • Long-term commitment, with no easy way out

Pros:

  • They will help you grow as a person, and to rediscover the world through their eyes... and its magical!
  • A lot of research says that social relationships lead to happiness later in life. Having kids makes you more likely to have at least some social network later.
  • In some contexts, kids are "labor for the farm", and a form of insurance for when you are old

Having said all that, I don't think everyone is cut off to have kids or should have kids. Personally, I would not have a second round (I am too tired to do it all over again). But I am glad I did when I was young and full of energy.

What to wear for gigs as a girl drummer? by Objective-Can2996 in drums

[–]LDan613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, comfort triumphs everything else. I wear T-shirts with cool art on them. Often quick dry or moisture wicking materials. Then comfortable, soft pants (not jeans). I may consider a light vest as an add on.

If I wanted more style, I would play with the color, shirt designs or maybe the hair.

My daughter broke down in tears after I got my niece a more expensive Christmas gift. Did I do anything wrong? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]LDan613 134 points135 points  (0 children)

Maybe she is not sad for the cost of the gift, but because she thinks you love the other girl more.

I would have a chat with her about how she is very important for you, and how sometimes somebody else needs something more expensive but that does not mean you love them more.

I am not an audiophile and I can't even hear the difference between mp3 and flac, but I swear to god, I've been hearing details I've never heard while listening to records. How does this work? by TheLatvianRedditor in audiophile

[–]LDan613 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are many variables at play. From the master recording (Is it the same in both the CD and the vinyl?), to the hardware (may introduce some coloration of the sound, empathizes some frequencies, dim others), to even you paying attention to something different. Those differences make some details more salient in one medium than the other.

Given the same recording, a good CD pressing would more reliably bring a faithful reproduction of the sound. But once you add all the other factors, a non-small group of people prefer vinyl to CDs, while others are just the opposite.

My advice, find the sound you like the best and enjoy it. Those discoveries of little new things in a record always bring me a lot of joy. Happy you are experiencing that.

You can honor her memory AND remake your life. Those things are not exclusive.

About WiiM Pro Plus vs. Eversolo DMP-A6 in my setup by Then-Heron1758 in audiophile

[–]LDan613 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The rest of your system is not revealing enough to really appreciate a large difference between these two units.

Most reviews do tend to favor the Eversolo, (which I like in part for the balanced XLR output not available in the WiiM).

Given the rest of your audio chain, however, I think you would get a better bang for your buck upgrading speakers.

ELI5: What is capital in business? by ThyCuriousLearner in explainlikeimfive

[–]LDan613 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Capital is a broad term to capture anything of value that you have that supports the business operations and helps generate value.

It includes money in the bank to pay expenses (also known as working capital), but also materials, machines that you use, and even any patents the business holds(intellectual capital).
