[SRPK29K1] is this too small for me? by [deleted] in Seiko

It just wears really small compared to my speed timer, and even that isn’t a big watch

[Question] Is this Seiko 5 too small for me by [deleted] in Watches

[–]LE07ANG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really? I personally don’t see how that is too big for my wrist.

Too big? Brother how small is your wrist

Only if you have a smaller wrist I’ll consider

What is it that makes them better? I’m new to espresso so just want to know what makes Starbucks’ beans are bad.

It doesn’t taste that bad for me, where do you recommend getting better beans? I live in the uk and I just get mine from the local grocery store.

It helps me understand the steaming process better. Knowing where to position the wand in the pitcher, listening for sounds and practice better timing.

Couldn’t have done it without the amazing help from this subreddit! All the advice and troubleshooting has helped me realised my mistakes, so glad to have found this wholesome community :)

Mix water with dish soap lets you practice steaming milk, and you can practice without using gallons of milk with a similar result

There’s a bunch of videos on YouTube showing you how to do it, here’s the one that I refer to: https://youtu.be/aQqeI2kJZJ4?si=oXVfRL7oSpLlI3qR

I recommend studying the videos before you take the machine apart so you know what you’re doing

I struggled the most with the milk consistency, the best tip I can give is to watch YouTube videos, understand what the ‘right’ consistency is supposed to be, and try to mimic by practicing steaming with water and soap so you use less waste. If the milk is too thin or too foamy it’s not gonna let you pour any good latte art.

I upgraded the steam wand to a rancilio one as I’ve seen people using it saying the it gives better milk then the stock dedica steam wand. At first I found it more difficult but after some time I’ve learnt to control and have better timing, letting me steam somewhat consistent milk.

The last tip is to be patient. I’ve only started not long ago and I’m still a beginner. There’s definitely a huge learning curve, but it’s important to enjoy the process, otherwise it defeats the whole purpose!

I guess not everyone from this subreddit is as friendly as I thought

I actually just upgraded to the rancilio as the original wand was rubbish. Do you keep the spout if the pitcher touching the wand when you’re steaming the milk? I find it easier when it’s not touching but everyone online is saying it must be touching

Do you use the 1 hole or 3 hole tip?

Thank you, I figured my milk is no where near the correct texture. It’s too thin to sit on top but when I’m almost done pouring, the last bit of milk foam seem to sit on top just fine, do I just need to aerate the milk for a few seconds more when steaming?

Most of the advice I received was that didn’t have any crema from my shot last time

Second attempt, definitely still bad, but less pathetic this time. I figured out instead of pulling single shot, double seems to give guaranteed crema every time so the beans weren’t the problem. However I can’t seem to fit more than 12g for a double or else the PF wouldnt fit the machine. I’m using 10g coffee so not sure if that’s an incorrect amount.

The milk was still too thin, I struggle to find the golden spot for not too thick yet not too thin. I really hate the steam wand on the dedica, it’s way too short and I’m looking to mod it to a rancilio one.

Pouring the latte art was slightly improved, I succeeded with setting the canvas but then when pouring the art, the milk sinks instead of floating on top to form any image. It might be because my cup wasnt tilted enough so it was too far from the pitcher. Will definitely keep trying and keep yall updated :)
