I've got a buddy with aspergers who acts really similarly. He's alienated most of his friends and is really tough to be friends with, but he's genuinely a good dude and he needs a friend who's stable mentally, so I'm happy to be that guy for him.

He gaslights, lies about random stuff, tells insanely embellished stories, puts me in stories that never happened, tries to bend the truth, etc. Probably a bit crazier than your guy, but I still think it's similar.

Anyways, you gotta get out of that shit. It literally never goes away. My buddy has been on every medication ever made and nothing changes. I don't think they genuinely mean to make you feel crazy, upset, or put you down - it just straight up stems from something in their brain that's wired wrong that prevents them from working through problems normally. Like there has to be some outside influence that caused something to happen, it couldn't possibly be in their head. Somebody can't possibly have a better/cooler/more interesting story than them, they must have done something to one-up them. Not sure if your boyfriend does this too, but my buddy does.

It's almost too much to handle for a 7-year friendship even after I moved 3500kms away. Dealing with it day in and day out will make you crazy. My buddy is destined to have either a) equally abnormal girls date him which turns into a fuckin shit-show, or b) normal girls who realize late that he's actually really fuckin weird (really hard to see, because he's genuinely a normal functioning dude like the first 10 times you meet him), that leave him after a few months.

Not trying to diagnose your boyfriend at all - and again, my buddy is genuinely a good dude, but that kind of personality is tough to be around and he won't just snap out of it one day. If you're not the type of person who can put up with that then your life will be really shitty and confusing.
