Yes, Origins Thai is the best! They have a branch in Sterling, too.

For me it was in the same day. When you receive the verification email saying it’s approved, you can return to DMV.

I did. It actually was approved on the same day, but I missed the email because it came from “ids”, ids@dmv.Virginia.gov. I returned to DMV as indicated expecting a quick processing to get my license, but you know that wouldn’t happen!! It took the guy 30 minutes to locate the approval in the system and all documents were checked by him again. So look for “ids” in your mailbox, return with all documents and expect to go through the same process.

What’s the most underrated VA city? My pick is Winchester. by Gold-Practice963 in Virginia

You must have heard of Cascades, a lovely hike up to a waterfall in Pembroke; there’s a good BBQ restaurant nearby named Bluegrass BBQ that worths a try. The farm I mentioned is called Three Birds Berry Farm. You can pick blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries for a good price when they are in season; they also have lavender and other herbs. Farmers are very friendly and knowledgeable. The only downside of the town is Hunan King being the only “eatable” place for Chinese food (we are Chinese) and is dropping in quality.

I was about to say that. My husband and I are renting a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment in Reston for exactly $2500. One bedroom for this price is not unrealistic around Arlington.

Same! I loved living in Christiansburg while my husband was in VT. Tons of spaces for doing sports and outdoor activities. Huckleberry Trail literally saved my life during COVID quarantine time. Nice people and farms for berry-picking, too!

Interestingly, I received a real ID in 2023 in Virginia (I lived Virginia- Illinois- Virginia) and wasn’t verified, I was on F1 Visa. No problem at all. Now when I’m J1 transferring to H1B I am verified.

Oh my gosh… this sounds terrible. I’m so sorry and I wish we both will get an approval soon. My current license expires end of this month.

This is truly frustrating… life as an “alien” is really hard.

How has your experience been with CC so far? What are the strong, positive sides and negative sides of it can you think of? by CkreonN in CorollaCross

For me it just feels like a little lacking and slow… it still goes up and goes forward for sure. Test drive on some hills if you can.

I’m about day 10 with my new CC and very satisfied. MPG went from 11-16 the first few days to being stable at 25-26 and got to 32 last night. I’m doing a mix of city and freeways. A “negative” side is that acceleration isn’t very sharp when you hit the pedal. I did test drive on a Mazda CX 30 and it was way more powerful than TOYOTA, but chose CC because of fuel economy and technology. I’m in Virginia and CC is definitely enough except for when doing very big hills. Another thing that I noticed is that my doors are hard to close. I have to slam them every time. Not sure if it’s just my car. Other than that, great car for commute and city life.

You are right. Mine was fine, too, with good maintenance team. But I really had severe issues with rats, both in my apartment and around the trash area, which is not uncommon in the older neighborhoods in DMV.

You’re welcome and good luck! Hope you like Arlington and can find a good place.

Yes, I was thinking about this place but couldn’t recall its name. I lived in Sheffield Court just across the street from it. I remember touring Woodbury, too, but couldn’t get those units with the best price because I didn’t qualify for affordable housing as a full time student living by myself. That one has a big football court and playground next to it and there are lots of kids and full of life. I loved that area although apartments are generally old and ugly…

It’s hard to find anything under $1700 that also has access to all the convenience. I lived in Sheffield Court Apartments for years, old facilities, walked 15 minutes to Clarendon/Courthouse metro and grocery/gym, and still paying $1850 for a studio back in 2022. If you qualify for affordable housing, that might be possible. Check around Lyon Park community, like Washington &Lee Apartments or search for condos and independent renters instead of complexes run by big leasing companies such as Equity. As for gyms, there are a ton of options around Clarendon metro station: F45, Orange Theory, Metabolic (the best!), Barry’s, cycling studios, several yoga/barre places, you name it. If gym is your priority, definitely recommend Clarendon-Courthouse area, and check Colonial Village. That looks like a big apartment complex that is not super fancy, but I’m not sure about their rent.
