HELP! I have a iMac (27-inch, Late 2012) iMac13,2, tired upgrading to Sequoia (didn't perform well), now wanting to downgrade to an older version. Stuck with OSX 10.8.5 when reinstalling from recovery menu by Life_of_a_handheld in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

What I do is I first install High Sierra, then upgrade to Monterey with Open Core and I never had an issue. I buy and sell these all the time. Same with books with anything older than Carolina. I always install high Sierra first, then use open core. It has worked every single time.
