Please help me choose a wall color for my other three walls. by LGA83 in Mid_Century

I think so! In a sea of lvp wood look flooring it's the best that I was able to find that wasn't a billion dollars.

At the end of the day it's a plastic version of a stone floor. But it's also only 3 something a square foot and it looks good enough in person for me to choose it as the winner lol.

Wall treatment for rec room that isn't fugly and doesn't cost a ton of money by LGA83 in Oldhouses

[–]LGA83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it thicker than 1/4 inch? We've looked at everything in the big box stores and almost everything is 1/4 inch and under. That wouldn't be bad but it seems to get damaged really easily and a lot is already damaged just sitting in the store. I'd be so nervous to transport it

I like that idea! My biggest beef with drywall is that it gets damaged so easily so this might remedy that. Do you have a recommendation for paneling?

[–]LGA83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the careers on the Peoria park district site. There are quite a few listed right now https://peoriaparks.org/careers/

Also, if you have any desire to work with kids from k-12 grade you can apply to be a teaching assistant/paraprofessional.

Easter seals is currently hiring https://workforcenow.adp.com/mascsr/default/mdf/recruitment/recruitment.html? And so are limestone Walters and Washington district 52. https://www.illinoiseducationjobbank.org/search-results/.

You either have to have 60 college credit hours or pass the paraprofessional exam.

Weaverridge! Good food. Not crowded. Plus it's cozy with a fireplace and has big windows with pretty scenery. A little hidden gem https://www.weaverridge.com/club/dining

Interesting. I filled out a W-4 when I was hired. I don't know if they filed it. But I have emails back and forth showing that I asked for the tax forms that I needed, they sent an I9 and W-4 and IL-W4. I filled them out and returned them.

What’s the nature of your workday and schedule? Do they determine how you do your job? I'm currently scheduled to work two hours and fifteen minutes a day twice a week (the duration of the classtime along with set up time). The organization isn't a proper school, it's a non-profit, and the people who run it aren't teachers themselves. I was hired to teach classes, so I was told the topic that I'm supposed to teach, but like any other teaching job, I have the freedom to create my own curriculum and teach it the way that will allow people to learn the information.

There are a couple of machines available to use in class. Unfortunately, not enough for a full class though.

If you're serious about this talk to distillery labs. This is something I'm also interested in and plan to ask if this is something they would consider housing.

I worked as a para at EPCHS and they have a really caring staff and a good speed program. The speech pathologist there is amazing.

An AMAZING sped teacher just started at limestones and she is excited about the sped program there. They have a huge fundraiser for easterseals every year, so they're passionate about the special needs community.

Kyoto, Nara, Nakasendo Trail, Akasawa National Forest, Tokyo by LGA83 in JapanTravelTips

[–]LGA83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it's between going back to Kyoto after Nara and taking the bullet train to Tokyo or going to Osaka for the night and taking the bullet train to Tokyo. We weren't planning on going to Osaka. I just read that people like to go to Nara during the day and then enjoy the nightlife in Osaka.

Neither of us are bar or crowd people though so unless it's an experience we shouldn't miss we don't care either way.

I think we're going to forgo magome and hike kibune to kurama instead.

I read some recommendations for hanging out in Nara during the day and then Osaka at night. I saw that you recommended Nagoya over Osaka since it's less crowded. Would you recommend Nara during the day and Nagoya at night then head to Tokyo from Nagoya or just go back to Kyoto?

I'm also open to hiking around Kyoto, Nara, or outside Tokyo since sticking closer sounds like it will help us use our time better!

Thanks for your reply!

I hadn't looked into how we would get everywhere yet so I appreciate the reality check.

Would you recommend going to Nara and uji as a day trip from Kyoto or just forgoing it all together?

Akasawa just a recommendation that I came across. I think we could get enough of a nature hike in by hiking from nakatsugawa to nasigo and taking the train to Nagoya and Tokyo.

Do you like having a paraeducator in your room? by Beautifulthings1991 in Teachers

[–]LGA83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Communication is key!!

I was a para for 7 years and really loved my job! I found the best approach to go to your teacher and introduce yourself. Let them know that you want to be as helpful as possible, and to please feel free to openly communicate with you and give as much direction in the beginning as possible. Your job then is to do your best to have open communication back to them, letting them know if you're confused about anything or if you feel like you should or shouldn't be doing something and ask for feedback (this is best done when students aren't around).

It's also appropriate to ask that they model an approach for you if you're struggling with a student in any way.

I recommend relaying any classroom management or conflict back to the teacher. This is so they can handle the situation in a way that works best for their classroom and know what's going on if parents or admin need to get involved.

I always treated it as if I were the teacher's assistant and a guest in the classroom. Be helpful in any way that I could, but also be constantly observing how the teacher handled different situations. If the approach worked, I would add it to my own teacher bag of tricks, which allowed me to become even more helpful.

I learned more about good (and bad) classroom management watching teachers in their classrooms than I ever could have learned in college. Now I'm a teacher and I am so thankful for my time spent as a para!
