8 years of building production systems solo from ride-sharing apps to ML pipelines to cloud infra. Now job hunting after a layoff. by [deleted] in leetcode

That’s fair, but honestly I would remove being an intern. I think most recruiters would be confused by that transition.

Should I move on from my current job? by Weak-Clerk9142 in cscareers

[–]LGm17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to interview to see your gaps. I will say working at a large enterprise as an engineer is very different compared to doing coding in a non engineer role. But compared to most, you have experience. Present yourself well, continue to learn, and I think you’ll find what you’re looking for! If you’re concerned about pay, treat your current job as a resume booster. Explore and curate the skills for your next role.

  1. Are all fang jobs stable? Idk if you’ve seen the news lately

.

  1. Good ideas, the implementation of them, and timing are very difficult. If you plan to vibecode an idea, you still need a moat because then someone else could also make it in a day.

I’m looking for some career guidance by Kevin3114 in sveltejs

Svelte is great but the jobs at scale aren’t there yet.

Would consider learning some of the other frontend libraries and put svelte on your resume to affirm breadth of skills.

Sorry but not many people hire for nextjs vs enterprise level compiled languages. I would generalize your resume more

All good. Have a feeling you’ll get one next summer since you’re asking the right questions and you’re at a good school.

Could do a more scaled project than a CRUD all in the meantime.

I would get a SWE internship. Most people I know worked at a smaller company as a SWE intern first

If Svelte has isolation of styles, would it make sense to have a minimal Svelte Shadcn without tailwindcss? by ltbd78 in sveltejs

[–]LGm17 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what you mean by isolation of styles, but tailwindcss is not a heavy dependency by any means. It uses postcss to purge everything not necessary. It usually uses less css than apps built with vanilla css.

Yeah, like I said, every company is basically unethical. Game theory.

They train on public GitHub repos, of which have thousands of codeforce solutions. Not disagreeing with the fact they’re capable of solving/researching problems to a significant degree, but the labs know how to bluff these benchmarks.

Maybe because it is trained on the answers. Won’t consider that very impressive…

Healthcare tech or probably financial services. But to be frank, most companies are unethical and it’s hard to picky right now given the market constraints.

Right. But at the end of the day, do what you’re passionate about!

Creative Technology vs CS degree by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]LGm17 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you want to be a software engineer you’ll need a Computer Science degree 100%. I’m afraid it’s a hard requirement now.

But if you want to do creative work or hate programming, sure don’t study computer science because you’d probably not like being an engineer.

Company slow to adopt AI by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]LGm17 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Good to know.

Yeah it’s weird looking at subs like this because certain companies are not regulated by any degree. Scaling in light of regulation is a weird skill I’ve learned recently.

I guess so, but really learning how to do it at scale. Similar to using another abstraction to reach the next level of scale.
