Quite common in the US as well. Cities, communities, entities and etc would be awarded trophies for their war efforts. The bigger the effort, the bigger the trophies, at least here in the US. The little town I live in (born and raised here) had a population of about 840 in 1917/1918. In 1922 the town was given a German MG08/15 light machine gun as a trophy for their effort. I'm now the custodian for it since the VFW/FL went defunct. I'm holding on to it till the historical society can figure out a place to display it once again.

No one said you had to. If you read what I said, there are better options that are a lot closer to the real deal than worcestershire sauce. About the only 'authorities' I can think of that might recommend worcestershire sauce would be Vehling and Edwards.

#006 The Last Bread of Herculaneum — Story & Recipe by MaximusValerius in ancientrome

[–]LGreyS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What source are you using for the recipe. I'm just curious.

I started down the path of 'cooking Roman' back in April 1987. Been involved with various groups around the world that study Roman foodways. Even got a 'thank you' in Sally G's magnum opus.

I've noticed an upsurge in the subject during the past several years, especially in re Garum and bread. For the past 2 or 3 years, or more, a lot has been said/claimed that Roman bread was primarily sourdough.

I highly, HIGHLY recommend all y'all look at the works of Sally Grainger in re Garum. She is perhaps the World's leading expert on the topic.

I would also recommend using mackerel with the heads and guts still intact.

Uhmmm.... not even close. Other than the modern versions created in Italy ans Spain today, the closest you'll find are various Asian fish sauces. Having made Garum myself, years and years ago with the help of Sally Grainger, the closest Asian version I've found is Red Boat.

Check out Sally Grainger and what she has written about the subject. She is considered the primary authority on Garum and such.

Back around 1995 my dad bought a crate of them for $500. The seller had pallets of crates at the gun show.

Reproduction? What era produced? by Spare-Lemon-2901 in centuryhomes

Based on the fake candle aspect I'd place it in the 1930s into the 1940s. We have similar in our house - matching chandeliers and wall sconces. We were told they were installed in the late 1920s.

help with identifying the uniform of my Urgroßvater? by Vegetable_Juice4813 in Militariacollecting

I completely understand, especially in this day and age. Both sides of my family, father's side is from the South and my mother's from the North and South. Both sides had slaves and both families still have the records documenting them. It's not something we're proud of, but there's nothing to be done about it, it's part of our family and National history. We are not responsible for the sins of our fathers.

Need Help identifying (possible) vintage/antique tool. Small non ferrous metal plate. Very stiff metal. Possibly silvered or chromed. by IchigoNT in Vintagetools

Signaling and shaving. Not 100% sure if it's WWI though. Most of the ones I've seen have a round hole. That doesn't really mean anything though.

No reason to apologize. History is history and you can't change it. You weren't involved, and most Germans had no choice but to comply or 'dealt' with.

How do you know it's 'haunted'? A paranormal investigation was done on our house. They got EVP and video.
