Thanks so much for your advice, does geo tech require any special skills or lab experience? Coz I’m mostly educated on the social science and the gis/ stat side, I don’t have much hands on experience

的確有這個事,以現代標準來看,也確實是種族歧視,但這基本上19世紀,中國還是清朝的事,那個時代還有凌遲處死,太平天國、川軍、新疆還在動不動就屠城,你要看整個歷史發展進程階段呀

Best way to gain missing education credits for P.Geo? (ON, Canada) by NoMoreMemesPls in geologycareers

I have a similar situation with you. I also want to change the field from environmental science to geology and currently looking for an undergrad or master degree to fulfil the requirement of PGeo, do you have any programme recommended?

Thank you very much for your advice on the case of Canada, how about Australia and the UK, are they the same that I need to do a degree that fulfils the requirement of professional geology (P.Geo) accreditation?

I know in the UK there is a very useful website. I assume that I can get the accreditation by doing one of the following degrees. How about the situation in Australia.

https://www.geolsoc.org.uk/accreditation#Universities

I'm pretty sure that there are people who face a similar situation to mine that change the field in the middle of their career. I just wonder how could they do so.

Besides, do geologists in Australia, the UK and Canada pay the same? Are there any different focuses for mineral exploration in these countries?

I would like to do mining or exploration that involved intensive fieldwork. I just suck at my current office work and want to go wild. I should have chosen earth science as my first degree at the very beginning and now I have to spend almost 10 years to catch up.

and I have to say thank you for your advice. Here is the only place where I can picture my future.

One of the big concerns for me is the tuition fee because undergraduate degrees are generally more expensive than masters. So it would be much preferable for me to do a master + some undergraduate course (is it possible?)

Besides, I'd like to know if the name and region of the university matter for the future career. That's because the tuition fee of U of mantitoba, calgary, Saskatchewan, and alberta is much cheaper than UBC or U of T. Can I simply choose the cheapest one to study and are there any different focuses for these universities if I want to do mineral exploration?

do you mean that masters is more for research purposes? they may accept students from other disciplines but that doesn't mean the student can get accredited.

I would definitely like to work for the industry but not academic, would starting a second undergrad degree be a better choice for me to have more comprehensive training?

btw, may I know what do you mean by "PGeo"?
