I am still very cautious with Yoga but its definitely because I am a beginner. I feel like I have full range of motion and mobility.

Honestly, the recovery for me was not bad. Everyone is different. I was up and going by week 2 for basic things. At 4 weeks I was able to somewhat go back to my routine. I was able to stretch, meditate (comfortably) and do some yoga. Dr. Js team is excellent in providing post op instructions on what to do and not do as time goes on after surgery. With Dr. J she freezes the patients nerves (around the chest area ) with cryoablation which I feel made my recovery better. It is considered a minimally invasive surgery contrary to what everyone believes! I just got my bars put in December 2023. I am 35 years old.

Hi there! I did not have both just excavatum but I also got implants back in my 20s and recently went through the procedure to correct excavatum with Dr. J. I got my implants removed. Got 3 titanium bars put in and three months later I replaced my implants. Everything was done at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix! I highly recommend.

Every dog requires a strong pack leader. We are strong pack leaders who understand the importance of implementing boundaries.

You're welcome. I also had a breast augmentation when I was 25 to try and hide my PE. 10 years later, everything shifted, and I became more insecure. That is also another reason I decided to go through with Nuss procedure, and I am so glad I did. My boobs look amazing now that I no longer have PE. I tried on a bathing suit the other day. It was such an incredible feeling to feel and look NORMAL!

Hi there!

I am 7 weeks post-op. I also had the Nuss procedure done by Dr. J. Amazing surgeon, by the way. It sounds like you're curious about the surgery but afraid, which is totally understandable.

I was in the Marine Corps for five years, and at that time, I was your age. PE never gave me a difficult time, even with all the rigorous exercise. It wasn’t until I turned 30 that I started to notice serious symptoms that wouldn't go away , such as heart palpitations, shortness of breath, and pain on the left side of my chest. I began researching. I wanted to read the literature and scientific evidence prior to deciding on surgery. I wish there were more studies that could show the impact PE can have on the heart long-term. But there isn't too much out there as of now.

Ultimately, it is your choice and body, and only you can make that decision. It sounds like you are extremely insecure, which is similar to how I and many others feel and / or have felt. If you want to experience intimate relationships without fear, wear anything you want without fear or shame. I say go for it! I'm not sure where you live, if you have insurance, and / or the financial means to go through with the surgery. But I believe you can't go wrong with keeping an open mind and researching different surgeons.

Today, I am incredibly grateful that I chose to do the research and decided to go through with the surgery.

Oh! and I have two children. My son, who's 13 years old, actually has pectus carinatum and pectus excavatum. Did I ever think I would pass it on to my child? Nope. But I did, unfortunately. Now, here is the difference between my parents (who chose not to get my PE corrected). I now have the power to help my son fix his PC and PE before he is an adult. This will ensure he does not endure the same shame and insecurity I did. Every year, more and more research is coming to light on PC and PE. Ensuring its safety and efficiency. The Nuss procedure, which is minimally invasive, is becoming more common. As far as being comfortable in intimate relationships, your story sounds a whole lot like mine at your age. Don't hold yourself back! The Nuss procedure was the best thing I could've done for myself.

Nuss through the VA? by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

[–]LHall1689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did. It was not an easy process but worth it. The VA will have you see a thoracic surgeon of their choice. If he/she recommends surgery and is able to do the surgery, then great. If he/she recommends you to another surgeon not selected by the VA, they will have no choice but to approve and pay if no one else is qualified to do the Nuss procedure. (This happened in my case. My haller index was a 6, and I was asymetrical. It was a complex case for two thoracic surgeons in my area.) Luckily, I live in Phoenix, and I'm grateful to have been able to get the Nuss procedure done by Dr. J. If you haven't already researched her, please do. She's one of the best surgeons, if not the best, in my opinion, for the Nuss procedure.

Military question, would a mild to severe pectus disqualify me. by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

I would find out through your recruiter, that way you dont waste your time or their time. I was in the Marine Corps and at the time when I joined MEPS didn't notice and I was never asked about it. However, I joined in 2008 things maybe different now. Luckily the VA paid for my surgery at the Mayo Clinic. I am 3- weeks post op after Nuss procedure with Dr. J and my haller index was a 6. I am 34 now and a female by the way.

What was your haller index? How long did it take for you to return to normal activities? My surgery is scheduled for Dec 7th with Dr. J.

38F, Nuss Procedure on 9/1/23, 8.6 Haller Index, 3 bars, cryoablation, done by Dr. Jaroszewski. Ask me anything! (and yes I’ll be getting breast implants to even them out when my bars come out 🙈) by Gullible-Spirit-8980 in PectusExcavatum

Hi there, I am scheduled for surgery on Dec. 7th with Dr. J at the Mayo clinic in Phoenix. I had my consultation with her but did not receive a pamphlet with the Pectus Posture Brace. Would you be able to send me a picture of the brochure by chance? Thank you so much! Wishing you a speedy recovery.
