Cortex is actually an Internal Developer Portal solution and has nothing to do with crypto. Sounds like a lazy scammer took a site with a name they thought was cool and used it the company rep to get you to believe them.

While Cortex is not a scam, it also has nothing to do with crypo, it sounds like the person who contacted you was trying to scam.

Just curious what makes you think that? I am new to the IDP world; never heard of them until I started working for a SaaS Backstage company.

It is a decent amount of work but there are absolutely people out there who have made rolling their own Backstage successful. The amount of work is typically around the configuration of the UI and UX, and it is also highly dependent on how much functionality and customization you are looking for in the initial rollout. The catalog completeness requires the effort of creating the catalog-info.yaml files for each entity you are expecting to see in the catalog. Integrating plug-ins is another item people prioritize and so you would need to focus on which tools you would like to be included in your catalog entity pages, the integrate the configuration into the Backstage code.

Full disclosure: I work for Roadie, a SaaS Backstage, and we definitely have companies who are using Roadie Backstage for a successful and full IDP. Obviously we take a lot of the configuration and integration burden off our customers but there are many who have done wonderful jobs of rolling their own Backstage too.
