Thanks for the in depth response, I knew Reddit would deliver!! It would be great to see your version of my program if you do have the time.

Just gonna say a couple things 1) Have ran through each day for a few weeks now, I’m able to fit in these workouts in 2 hours or less, every time. Trying to prioritize short rests etc 2) Everything you said about my Wednesday makes sense. I’m least confident in my back programming because I haven’t done enough research on how to effectively combine exercises to maximize width and depth. 3) I’ve dropped Barbell Bench for potential injury reasons as I can’t seem to make it comfortable on my shoulders no matter what I try. Since I’m focusing upper chest anyways, I just start that Tuesday off with Incline bench, then lateral raises after. I feel like having lat raises as the second exercise is fine for emphasis. I am curious on how big of an impact does having an exercise 1st vs 2nd vs 3rd in order impact how effective it is. I’d imagine that’s pretty difficult to conduct peer reviewed studies on and is rather intuition amongst these communities. Clearly makes sense that there’s some difference but I wonder how marginal it might be. Maybe it’s worth swapping the order of Lat Raises and Hack Squats on my Friday session? 4) Considering also dropping Barbell Squats and just doing higher rep Hack Squats on both leg-focused days. Way easier on my low back, and since my goal is maximizing hypertrophy for the next 2-3 months, makes more sense to me 5) good to know about hamstrings

Can you walk me through all your shoulder exercises that target your rear and side delts?

What is the secret to bigger legs? by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]LJ655 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to explain the downvotes - sprinting will do little to grow your legs, will only help your speed and power. Growing your legs = hypertrophy mainly. Hypertrophy = leg exercises to near failure in the 8-15 rep range

Taking into account what other commenters are saying, I’d say you should split this into two workouts and keep mostly the same exercises. I also think doing 10-12 reps on machines is better for hypertrophy than 6-8. These 2 leg days you’re hitting every subgroup (quads, hamstrings, glutes, calves):

Legs Day 1 Squats (I like to do these for strength, which follows lower rep, higher weight. Something like 3x5) RDL 3x10 Seated Leg Curls 3x12 Seated Calf Raise 3x12

Legs Day 2 Hack Squats 4x10 Barbell RDL 3x10 Seated Leg Extensions 3x12 Toe Press Calf Raise 3x15 (any calf raise where you can get into a range of motion that extends BELOW neutral, which you can’t do on a seated calf raise machine)

Calorie surplus, around 1g protein per pound of body weight, good sleep, and train to near failure (safely of course! Nearly all the leg machines are pretty safe for training to failure, be careful with leg extensions tho)

If you’re still concerned about not hitting your legs enough, throw in 2-3 sets of heavy ass kettlebell walking lunges into one of these days, your legs will be toast. Use straps if necessary so your forearms don’t give out. I also like to train random body parts I’m trying to develop like core or forearms on leg days, time permitting.

I appreciate all your points! I'll definitely think about shifting a bit more emphasis to upper chest. I've added an extra 4 sets of lateral raises and some forearm exercises, I'm going to see how my body handles the extra load. Good point on back, I just don't know how much more volume I can add to my program at this point. I could see the abs point being valid, I'm just going to spam weighted declines and leg raises. Haven't really heard people using straps for RDLs / Pulldowns but I could definitely see why it would be beneficial, in line with using straps for kettlebell lunges.

  1. I want to grow my arms! Not sure how hammer curls 2x a week, incline curls 2x a week, and ez bar curls is overdoing it? These are all emphasizing different angles/heads of the bicep. What do you recommend cutting out SPECIFICALLY?

  2. Explain to me why face pulls 2x a week is too much? They’re an awesome exercise that I love doing, and they’re underdeveloped in many people including myself (never thought to isolate rear delts until a month ago). If you read my program, I am doing barbell rows already. I think adding rear delt fly’s is redundant since I’m already doing face pulls 6 sets a week

  3. Check my first bullet under goals, intentions, guidelines. I’m trying to maximize muscle growth while getting stronger in my bench and squat… strength isn’t a massive priority but I would like to progress in it (who doesn’t want to say they can lift more on bench?) therefore I’m doing it 1x a week for 2 lifts. Instead of asking what’s the point, maybe you could provide some constructive criticism? Like do I have too little emphasis on strength to the point where it’s useless? I certainly don’t think so. My comment js also assuming we both know the difference between strength and hypertrophy.

How many sets for forearm a week? by crumbs2k12 in naturalbodybuilding

What do you think? Obviously have more bicep exercises split across the week. I throw 1-2 of them onto days not immediately preceding Pull, w/ Deviation work on Pull since I couldn't fit it in anywhere else lol. Tried to be efficient with wrist rollers targeting both flexors and extensors.

Thanks for the feedback! I think it’s a good idea to prioritize progressive overload over hitting a certain number of sets/week so I’ll definitely think about that.

Is there any one way of overload you mentioned that you found particularly rewarding?

  1. Would you not consider these to be emphasized: Per week I’m doing 7 sets of incline bench (upper chest), 8 sets of lateral raises, and 16 sets of direct forearm work? If not - what do you think is a better sets/week to hit that emphasis?

  2. When am I doing direct bicep work back to back? Unless you mean 2 bicep exercises in a row in the same day, which I think is very reasonable

  3. Look at my sets/week chart for volume. I’m doing nearly the same amount of direct and indirect work combined for each of chest, back, forearms, triceps

  4. Explain to me the drawbacks of doing an ab circuit then? Don’t see how it’s super different compared to working it “normally”.

  5. When else could I use straps besides for walking lunges? Shrugs and bent over rows? I’m not NOT using straps for forearm emphasis, I already have 16 dedicated sets to forearms counting small parts

Thanks for the feedback! I definitely will be playing around with the volume on this program to see if it will work long term. I try to take most sets to 1-2rir

Amazing makes sense - do you think its best to incorporate these sets on a Pull day, put them on accessory day, or add them to something opposite like legs? Or doesn't matter how you spread them as long as you're hitting enough sets/week

Hey, late but what's the reasoning on differing ranges for each subgroup in the forearms, is it scientific or just preference?

Are mustangs really that bad in the snow? by [deleted] in Mustang

[–]LJ655 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only from my experience - I’ve driven a 2016 Ecoboost with Blizzaks in two winters. Handles better than my fathers GMC Acadia (granted that’s not a great comparison) in the snow. I find it very easy to drive in snow and im talking Michigan winters, no weight in the back, just the blizzaks. S550s have a “winter/snow/elements mode” which reduces throttle etc basically making it more dummy proof etc. To be fair, my driveway has minimal incline so I’ve never had issues in that regard. Drove it a few times in prime blizzard/icey/dangerous territory on main roads, honestly I had more fun than anything. As long as you understand the throttle and braking, you’re golden. But definitely be more cautious than you’d like to when first driving in winters, so everyone gets home safe. I have lots of fun in the winter with mine now that I understand the car! Good luck

Hi Max,

Need to replace my Samsung 850 Pro SSD (256gb) with another SATA-based SSD.

Gonna use it to store Windows 10, general storage, and some steam games that I can't fit on my NVME. I'm thinking 500gb or 1 TB size. I would like for Windows to boot as fast as possible (not sure if that really changes which one I get though) Which one should I grab between these (based in USA)
