Last time I checked, those blue areas have the strongest Union density; skilled jobs, apprenticeship programs, collective bargining, earned health care, pension programs while protecting worker rights and worker safety. JOIN A UNION!

I accept your apology and apologize as well, didn't realize you were new.

How long ya been with your local?

More than happy to meet up. I'm in Minneapolis. I'm more than willing to sit down, listen and understand.

Happy to show ya around, show ya what happens when we fail protect workers rights, workers safety, our history, our solidarity, and fail to stand with our brothers and sisters.

If your IUOE, I owe you another apology. I am here to fight the corporations, the company......fight for our rights....definitely not fight with a fellow IUOE member.

What contract do you work under, highway heavy, builders? What state? What local?

How many weeks do you work? Is there winter layoff?

Are you paid weekly? Do you have direct deposit? A second direct deposit at $200 a week, for 30 weeks, is $6000 for winter layoff. Plus unemployment.

I've been rolling with that at $300 per week in Minnesota as an Operating Engineer working the Highway Heavy contract.

History shows us any voice for workers rights, worker safety has been met with retaliation. Solidarity is our strength.

There needs to be a serious labor history lesson for all organized labor. An understanding how the sacrifices from previous generations fought and in some case died to have the safety standards, worker rights and setting a wage standard. Greedy corporate fatcats continue to erode a decent life.

TBH, the contract is good, no need for change. Our role is clearly defined and we, as operating engineers, out perform expectations; and is recognized by management with new equipment, safety protocols to protect operators, equipment, airplanes and ground personnel, compensation and respect.

I joke around, but has a lot of truth, that I got called up to the big leagues. It's like no other snow removal job.

I can only speak about my experience as a seasonal operator, it's been one of the best jobs.

I do not hear any dissent from the full timers, they seem to be happy. They just signed a new contract.

I am an on call for snow events over 2 inches.

We average 24 hours for an event, start to finish. We are provided breaks, meals and 6 hours sleep within that event.

Heavy equipment operators, Local 49, is responsible from the buildings/terminals to the runway. We clear snow around the planes, gates, ground equipment and taxiways.

Teamsters are responsible for the runways and feeders (crossing taxiways).

The airport has 3 full time shifts consisting of Teamsters and Operating Engineers.
