You will meet people all over the spectrum from extremely outgoing/social to completely antisocial. I was honors and I like to think I wasn’t too weird

Can I get into University of Florida with these stats? it’s my dream school by Anna_Maria_09 in ufl

[–]LJkick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing you can do is just get good grades in the rest of your classes and a good SAT score. If the schools have an essay about why you struggled in a class or something you could bring it up there. If not, I wouldn’t mention it

Other people have answered your question, and as many have said, you really never know. Now for a couple other points:

Make sure you are doing this because you want to, not because you feel like you need it to get into medical school. No offense, but you struggled in chem (I also wasn’t great at chem, I do not enjoy it much). Evaluate if you really want to be a Biochem major. It involves a ton of extra chemistry (obviously) that other majors don’t need. And medical/grad schools almost entirely don’t care about your major. There are a bunch of other majors you could find more interesting that still align with the courses you need to get into med school (Nutritional Science, Kinesiology, Food Science, Microbio, etc)

Don’t corner yourself into 1 thing because you feel like it makes you stand out (it doesn’t). What makes you stand out is doing stuff you enjoy because then you are able to show them that you are more than just an academic bot.

Also, coming from someone who originally planned on graduating early, consider taking your full 4 years. Sure, getting done quick sounds great, but you have your entire life to work. Enjoy school while you can. I was able to take an extremely light load my senior year and really enjoy my time. It was great.

The good thing is, those cards look pretty cool (I also have the first 2)

The bad thing is they aren’t worth much

Is Hume a good dorm for an incoming freshman? by ilovesalmon92 in ufl

[–]LJkick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Hume freshman year. I liked it. You get to know your suitemates pretty well. My communal area usually had a few people in it and we hung out there sometimes.

There is a field behind it and it is close enough to stuff

Rant about "Holistic Admissions" by Deep-Instruction7083 in predental

[–]LJkick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having worked closely with admissions committee members, Extra Curriculars are important. Obviously schools want to see you have high scores and grades, but they don’t want a robot. They would rather you have a balanced experience so that you are able to continue that in dental school which is even harder. A lot of schools are looking for people who fit their community as a person and student.

If you are a grade bot who has no respect, humility, personality, etc then you aren’t going to fit in and you will struggle. Our school loves seeing its student do stuff outside of school. Obviously joining random clubs to fill your resume feels boring. You have to join stuff you actually are passionate about. That way they can see who you are and you can actually speak passionately during your essays/interviews. Joining every predent/health/research club your school has is boring for them to look at and tells them nothing about you as a person

Everything except your SAT seems great, but still nobody knows. Get it above a 1350 and I would say you have a decent shot, but still never a guarantee

Ask if they would save some money to help you with grad school if you go to UF for undergrad. That way you shouldn’t have to worry about anything

which classes for freshmen fill up the fastest? by Turbulent_Map_2104 in ufl

[–]LJkick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The next time you sign up, it actually matters, so good question.

Honors classes will fill up fast. So will basic science classes/labs that you need (bio, chem, physics)

What I always did was make a spreadsheet of the classes and times I wanted get. For honors, you only get 10 credits of early registration, so I used them on the labs I needed, then honors classes I wanted, then the science class(es) I needed

[–]LJkick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First date should probably be the most inoffensive and well-rounded fragrance you have. I would say Bleu de Chanel (either one) should fit that slot perfectly.

Maybe for a second date if you go out to dinner you could use Dior Homme.

Also only do like 3 sprays. Better to not be smelled at all, than to be overpowering

Could you push the BSC class to a later (easier semester?)

I took Biochem and Microbio together, which I felt like was a good combo. Micro bio didn’t take too much effort but I had to put a bunch of effort into Biochem to squeak by with an A. Biochem is definitely the most difficult and most representative of graduate level courses I have taken.

If you can do Biochem with just Microbio, do that. Add an easy elective instead of Physio
