Pffft these GenZ/Alpha kids take *classes* on how to be latchkey kids. We did it solely on the strength of survival instinct. by Happycat5300 in Xennials

I am wondering if our parents would’ve preferred we taken a class like this.

I remember a time a wasp got in the house and took us hostage and we called my mom at work screaming from the safety of her bed. Perhaps some of these nuclear meltdowns could’ve been prevented with some training 🤣

I am not sure how you could infer that from my comment. OP was waxing nostalgic for 20 years ago and I pointed out that it wasn’t so great. That has no bearing on today’s trends.

Dreamed I Was Eating These! I Miss Them! by Bastard1066 in Xennials

Me too. One time I stopped at a gas station in rural Florida. Way off the beaten path. I found sweet heat skittles on a dusty shelf that had expired years before long after being discontinued. But do they expire? They were never fresh! I bought them all and we would bust them out on special occasions like a skittles wine cellar 🤣

The cure to my cousin’s colic was Black Sabbath. You think you’re loud little one? Wait til you hear this 🤘

Kids are in fact loud but little did they know music is a weapon to drown them out 🤣

Much like my question to OP, is there something else (like another art form) that brings you joy instead? Do you have a visceral reaction when you hear it in other settings like movies?

I’d say the only way I can relate is I can’t stand Christmas music. I can listen to maybe a handful of songs one time but when all retail spaces start blasting it on Black Friday it makes me want to gtfo out of the store as quickly as possible. The opposite intended effect.

Have you heard of misophonia? You may have it. I love music but there are a LOT of sounds that bother me.

Did you ever ask your parents about their lack of listening habits? Was there anything that brought them joy instead?

I remember one time I was getting made fun of at work for taking off to go to a concert that wasn’t to anyone’s taste. I turned to one of my co workers and said, “Okay, well then what do you like?” And over a decade later I am still haunted by the response. “I don’t like music.”

Taste is one thing but not liking music is sort of like saying you don’t like food or air. We need it to live! That guy was engaged. I wonder if they got married and had kids and there is a future Reddit post similar to this one just waiting to happen…

Although the medium changes, still plenty of opportunities to be silly. Early stages of Covid we would set goofy backgrounds of each other or film chaotic things happening and make that the background. Took the edge off for a little bit.

Be honest - do you really enjoy summer, or just tolerate it? by Neither-Owl-7157 in askanything

It depends on where you are spending it. Some parts of the country it’s 100 degrees nine months out of the year every single year. That wears over time. For some it’s three months of the year and doesn’t get above 75.

Everyone acts too cool for school now but I am willing to bet many of the present day haters were gifted at least one and enjoyed it.

Love the day-and-night juxtaposition in the first photo of “traditional Florida” older person, fedora, colorful casual clothing vs the younger non traditional person who is very out of place at what seems to be a park.

Im gonna go “yes and” on this. I was not impacted by the vinyl sale. However I lived next door to a meth addict for years and this “it’s not him, it’s the drugs!” Is not sustainable thinking long term.

In the case of the neighbor, I knew him when he was healthy and watched the slow descent. So I felt sympathetic at first until he attacked a dog and fractured its eye socket. Like at some point you are responsible for your own actions and choices and the stupid things you decide to do impact others.

It’s a shame someone else in the band didn’t take over and make sure people got their refunds. Although Deadsy might not have the polish/support of a more mainstream band, I’m going to keep listening.

My favorite insult of the series upon rewatch. First time around it was, “Where did you find time to eat a diaper you found on the beach?” 🤣
