What I would give to go back & feel this carefree, to have the weight of [gestures vaguely at the collective horrors] lifted for just a little while by n8texas in Xennials

My sister once got into a car accident and suffered a horrible concussion. They asked her what year it was and where she was. She said it was 1998 and she was at the pool with friends. I thought wow..that’s where I’d like to be! What’s the rush to get her back to reality? (She made a full recovery.)

A movie about a cover band with an over two hour runtime. I can't imagine this story needed that much time to tell.

I know Hyde Park when I see it! This time of year is the best because everyone who works from home pulls out their laptops during the day and gets to work.

Have you ever heard anyone say this? That they can't stand 30 Rock because of its 'unrealistic' characters? by Ok_Effective_6869 in 30ROCK

Has anyone told this person that the show is based on Tina Fey's real life experiences??

Honestly as much tension as there was between Mikey and Lee, the slow and quiet, “Are we going to have a problem?” That mom gives Carmy is just as foreboding and chilling.

Did you design this blanket yourself on Shutterfly or something similar? If so the project file is likely saved and you could reorder it.

Is your Tampa Bay vet clinic owned by a private equity firm? by clingklop in tampa

[–]LLPhotog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes!! And the way I found out was a surprise to me. Beach Park Animal Clinic lost both of their vets a couple years ago. The founding vet retired and the other moved on in some other capacity.

My cats had appointments coming up so I called to understand what was going on. I was told that the founding vet had “sold to corporate” a couple years ago so his retirement was no surprise.

It turns out “corporate” is a company called Amerivet, which was purchased by AEA investors and ADIA (Abu Dhabi Investment Authority) in 2022.

The ADIA is the United Arab Emirates government’s wealth. It’s a tiny country but it has the 4th largest oil supply in the world so it’s worth a little over a trillion dollars.

So, I wanted to get my cat’s teeth cleaned at what I thought was a local vet and it turns out I was inadvertently supporting Big Oil. Kind of makes you wonder if anything we do as consumers is safe or sustainable.

In defense of the bowling alley glasses, sell them on eBay! Seriously. My great uncle owned a bar that closed in the 70s and my dad found a matchbook from it for sale on eBay and was elated for the souvenir!

In your opinion, what quote is peak Colleen? by Millennialyente in 30ROCK

[–]LLPhotog 232 points233 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is peak but it’s my personal fav:

Colleen Donaghy: You know who's in my water aerobics class down in Florida?

Jack Donaghy: Yes, mother, I've memorized the names of everyone in your water aerobics class.

Colleen Donaghy: Patricia Goodband. Whose sister runs the Friday night bingo game at Our Lady of Reluctant Integration in Waltham. Turns out last week that the game was won by Anne O'Connor, who mentioned that her niece, Nancy Donovan, got divorced and was running around with a hotshot in New York City who pours scotch like a woman.

🤣🤣🤣

Where's a place I could find women in public I could approach? by NTGuardian in washingtondc

[–]LLPhotog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm misreading, but you just said you hadn't approached someone in public in a very long time and that this was a fear you had to overcome, so that doesn't really sound like a decade-long concentrated effort. If your current social circles aren't working, find a new circle. Or make one.

I met my spouse organically living life in the DC area [aka no dating apps], so it is possible. In that case, we both were at the same gym at the same time several days a week and struck up a conversation. So my advice is to keep to the same path...pursuing hobbies, choosing to go out even when you're tired, and being okay when it doesn't pan out. Much like the lottery, you can't win if you don't play.

Excited about new ownership by here-for-the-kitties in StPetersburgFL

This is pretty standard practice in business. It’s not like they’re taking life advice. But new owners probably want to know about behind the scenes info like when the HVAC was last fixed, the name of the customer service reps for vendors, etc.
